# Access Answers and Candidate Responses
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/access-candidate-responses
View individual candidate submissions, scores, and responses on AutoProctor for Socratease Quizzes and Google Forms tests.
After candidates complete a test, you can review their individual submissions to see detailed responses, scores, and grading status. The process differs depending on which quiz platform you use.
## For Socratease Quizzes
Visit your [AutoProctor dashboard](https://www.autoproctor.co/test-admin/home/) and locate the test you want to review.
Click the **View** button under the **Results** section of the relevant test. This opens a list of all candidate submissions.
Each submission shows one of two states:
| State | What It Means | Action |
| ------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------- |
| **Score link with percentage** | The candidate finished the test and it has been graded | Click the score link to view their full responses |
| **Blue Grade button** | The candidate has not finished the test, or it has not yet been graded | Click **Grade** to review and grade their responses |
Clicking either link opens a detailed page showing all responses, points scored, and candidate-specific information.
For Google Forms, Microsoft Forms, and IFrame tests, quiz results appear in the platform where you created the quiz — not on AutoProctor. See [Where Can I See My Quiz Results?](/where-to-find-quiz-results) for where to find results for each platform.

# Adding Collaborators to Your Tests
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/add-collaborators
Share test management access with other team members using AutoProctor's collaborator feature.
Collaborators can co-manage your tests by viewing results, changing settings, and accessing all test data. You add collaborators by sharing a unique link from your test's Advanced Settings.
Only **Premium** and **Elite** plan users can add collaborators. Collaborators must already be members of your [team](/what-is-a-team). If someone is not yet on your team, invite them to join your team first.
## How to Add a Collaborator
Navigate to your test and open the **Advanced Settings** section at the bottom of the settings page.
Locate the collaborators section, which displays current collaborators and provides a link to add new ones. Click the **collaborate link** to copy it to your clipboard.
Send the copied link to the team member you want to add as a collaborator.
When the person clicks the link, they gain access to the test immediately. They appear in the collaborators list for that test.
## Collaborator Permissions
Once added, collaborators receive **full read and edit access** to the test:
| Permission | Access |
| --------------- | --------------------------------------------- |
| View results | All candidate submissions and proctoring data |
| Change settings | Timer, proctoring, and advanced settings |
| Manage test | Archive, configure, and share the test |
Collaborator access is **permanent**. There is currently no way to remove a collaborator from a test once added. Share collaborate links only with people you trust with full test access.

# Advanced Settings
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/advanced-exam-settings
Configure login providers, email restrictions, Google Sheets integration, collaborators, and other advanced test options.
Advanced Settings give you control over how candidates log in, who can access the test, and how results are shared. These options are found at the bottom of the Test Settings page.
## Login Providers
Choose which authentication methods candidates can use to sign in to your test:
| Provider | Description | Availability |
| ------------- | -------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Google** | Sign in with a Google account | **Required** for Google Forms tests. Optional for Socratease and IFrame tests. |
| **Microsoft** | Sign in with a Microsoft account | **Required** for Microsoft Forms tests. Optional for Socratease and IFrame tests. |
| **Email** | Sign in with any email address | Socratease and IFrame tests only. |
For Google Forms and Microsoft Forms tests, the login provider is locked to match the quiz platform. For Socratease and IFrame tests, you can enable one or more providers — including Google and Microsoft login.
For more details on how each login method works, see [Candidate Login Methods](/candidate-login-methods).
## Login Restrictions
Restrict which candidates can take your test based on their email address or domain.
* **Restrict by Email** — Allow only specific email addresses to access the test
* **Restrict by Domain** — Allow only candidates with email addresses from specific domains (e.g., @university.edu)
For detailed instructions, see [Restricting by Email](/restrict-access-by-email). If you want to invite a specific set of candidates, see [Inviting Candidates via Email](/invite-candidates-via-email).
## IFrame Height
When your test is embedded as an iframe inside AutoProctor, this setting lets you adjust the height (in pixels) of that iframe to match your test content. The default is 1764px. Increase it if your test content is getting cut off or candidates have to scroll within the iframe, or decrease it to remove extra whitespace.
## Collaborators
Add colleagues as collaborators on your test so they can edit settings and view results. You can set the test's Primary Admin by clicking the **Manage** button.
For more details, see [Adding Collaborators](/add-collaborators).
## Premium and Elite Features
### Google Sheets Integration (Premium)
Automatically write test results in a Google Sheet by entering the sheet URL in this field. For Socratease quizzes, both proctoring results and quiz scores are exported. For non-Socratease quizzes, only proctoring results are included.
For setup instructions, see [Google Sheets Integration](/write-results-to-google-sheets).
### On Test Completion (Premium)
Controls what candidates see after they submit their test. By default, all users see the standard AutoProctor completion page. Premium and above users can customize this with two additional options:
| Option | Description |
| ------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Show default message** | Display the standard AutoProctor completion page (available on all plans) |
| **Show custom message** | Display your own HTML message to candidates (e.g., "Thank you for completing the assessment!") |
| **Redirect to URL** | Send candidates to an external page after submission (e.g., your company's website or a feedback form) |
### Unique URL per Candidate (Elite)
By default, all candidates share a single test link, which could be forwarded to unintended recipients. Enabling this feature generates a unique link for each candidate, ensuring only the people you share links with can take the test.
Unique URL per candidate is an Elite feature. See [Elite Features](/elite-plan-features) for more details.
### Gather Additional Details (Premium)
Collect custom information from candidates before the test starts — such as phone number, college name, or any custom question. These fields appear on the instructions page and the collected data is available in results and Excel exports.
You can add up to 10 custom information fields per test.
### Additional Instructions (Elite)
Add custom instructions to the candidate instructions page. This is shown to candidates before they start the test and can be used to provide specific guidelines, rules, or context for your test.
Additional Instructions is an Elite feature. See the [Instructions Page for Candidates](/candidate-instructions-page) for more on what candidates see before starting.

# Archiving and Deleting Tests
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/archive-and-delete-exams
Learn how to archive tests to declutter your dashboard or permanently delete tests you no longer need.
Over time, your dashboard accumulates demo tests, completed exams, and outdated assessments. Archiving moves tests out of your main view without deleting them, and deletion permanently removes tests you no longer need.
## Archiving Tests
Archiving a test hides it from your main dashboard while keeping it fully accessible in a dedicated section. This is useful for clearing out completed or demo tests without losing any data.
Go to your [**Dashboard**](https://www.autoproctor.co/test-admin/home/) and open the test's **Settings**.
Click **Archive Test** to move the test out of your main dashboard view.
Open the **Archived Tests** section in the left sidebar to view all your archived tests.
## Restoring Archived Tests
You can return an archived test to your main dashboard at any time.
Click **Archived Tests** in the left sidebar.
Find the test you want to restore and click **Restore**. The test reappears on your main dashboard.
## Deleting Tests
You can permanently delete a test from the **Archived Tests** section. You must archive a test before you can delete it.
If the test is still on your main dashboard, archive it first using the steps above.
Open the **Archived Tests** section in the left sidebar.
Click **Delete** next to the test you want to remove permanently.
Deleting a test removes it from your account permanently. However, **candidate answers and proctoring records are preserved** -- that data persists even after the test is deleted. For example, if you load the Google Forms add-on after you delete the test, the test will re-appear on your dashboard, with the old results intact.
## Important Notes
| Scenario | What Happens |
| --------------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| You delete a Google Forms test, then reinstall the add-on | The test reappears with all original results preserved |
| A test has multiple collaborators and you delete it | Deletion only affects your account -- other collaborators retain full access |
| You want to recover a deleted test | Deleted tests cannot be recovered; archive instead if you may need the test later |

# Before You Get Started
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/before-you-get-started
Critical requirements for using AutoProctor successfully. Follow these five rules to prevent candidates from losing access or answers.
Hundreds of thousands of candidates have used AutoProctor successfully. However, common mistakes can lead to test access failures or lost submissions. Follow these five requirements to avoid issues.
Improper use of AutoProctor can result in candidates being unable to take tests or losing their submitted answers. Read this page carefully before administering your first test.
## 1. No File Upload Questions
File uploads are not compatible with AutoProctor. Do not include file upload question types in your Google Forms. All other question formats work as expected.
## 2. Share Instructions with Candidates
Almost all issues candidates face can be avoided if they read and follow instructions beforehand. Share the appropriate instructions page based on your test configuration:
| Test Configuration | Instructions to Share |
| ------------------ | --------------------------------------------------- |
| Timer only | [Timed test instructions](/take-timed-exam) |
| Proctoring enabled | [Proctored test instructions](/take-proctored-exam) |
Have your candidates complete a demo test at least **24 hours** before their actual exam. This helps them understand the platform and verifies their device is compatible. See [Best Practices for Test Creators](/best-practices-for-exam-creators) for the demo link.
## 3. Click Both Submit Buttons
Candidates must click two submit buttons -- first the **purple** button within the test form (Google Forms, Microsoft Forms) to save their answers, and then the **green Submit** button within AutoProctor to submit the proctoring session.
If candidates do not click the **purple submit button first**, all their quiz answers are lost. This cannot be recovered. Share the [submit button guide](/how-to-submit-quiz) with your candidates before the exam.
## 4. Log Out of Other Google Accounts
Candidates experiencing blank pages, connection errors, or inability to select answers should log out of all their other Google accounts before attempting the test. This resolves the majority of technical issues.
For more troubleshooting help, see:
* [Blank Page / Grey Screen](/blank-screen-during-test)
* [Cannot Click Answers](/cannot-click-answers-during-test)
* [Loading Screen Issues](/test-stuck-at-loading-screen)
## 5. Maintain Sufficient Test Attempts
AutoProctor requires paid credits to operate. You must ensure your account has enough test attempts available, or candidates cannot load the test. See [Payments and Credits](/payments-and-credits) for details on purchasing and tracking credits.
When you create a Test Admin account, you receive **10 free credits** to get started. After using them, you must purchase a subscription.

# Best Practices for Test Creators
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/best-practices-for-exam-creators
Follow these best practices when administering proctored tests on AutoProctor to ensure a smooth experience for you and your candidates.
## Pre-Test Checklist
Share the demo test link for your test type with candidates at least **24 hours** before the actual exam. The demo helps candidates understand the platform, grant the required browser permissions, and confirm their device meets technical requirements.
Demo links for each test type:
* [Socratease Test](https://www.autoproctor.co/tests/bj0yv14Ufu/load)
* [Google Forms Test](https://www.autoproctor.co/tests/GFICZZZA/load)
* [Microsoft Forms Test](https://www.autoproctor.co/tests/gToT6XfaO1/load)
* [Other Quizzing Platforms Test](https://www.autoproctor.co/tests/UAIJ2bcQ1i/load)
The demo test does not consume test credits from your account. Candidates can take it as many times as they need.
Ensure your account has enough test attempts available before the exam. If candidates try to load a test and your account has no credits, they cannot proceed.
See [Payments and Credits](/payments-and-credits) to check your balance and purchase more if needed.
Set a Buffer Time so candidates have a grace period after the "Can't Start After" cutoff to set up their device.
See [Timer Settings](/timer-settings) for configuration details.
Before sharing the test link, click it yourself to verify the candidate experience. Confirm that the instructions page, camera check, and proctoring setup all load correctly.
## Distributing Test Links
How you share the test link matters. Some distribution methods cause compatibility issues.
| Method | Recommended? | Notes |
| -------------------------------- | ------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Email (Gmail, Outlook)** | Yes | Links open in the default browser, which works reliably |
| **LMS (Moodle, Canvas, etc.)** | Yes | Links open in the system browser |
| **Telegram, Facebook, WhatsApp** | No | In-app browsers are often incompatible with AutoProctor's proctoring. If you do share the link here, tell candidates to copy it and open it in Chrome or Firefox |
If candidates receive test links through messaging apps (such as Telegram, WhatsApp, or Facebook Messenger), advise them to **copy the link** and open it directly in **Chrome** or **Firefox**. In-app browsers lack the features AutoProctor needs for proctoring.
Send the demo link at least 24 hours before the actual test. Send the real test link closer to the scheduled time to prevent early access.
## During the Test
* **Be available** -- Remain accessible via a communication channel (such as Google Meet, Zoom, or WhatsApp) during the test window so candidates can reach you if they encounter technical issues.
## After the Test
Check [Trust Scores](/what-is-trust-score) and proctoring reports for each candidate. Focus your review on candidates scoring below 85%.
If candidates face any technical issue during the test, ask them to follow [this article](/contact-us).

# Blank Page or Grey Screen During Test
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/blank-screen-during-test
Resolve blank page or grey screen issues when loading a proctored test. Usually caused by being signed into the wrong Google account.
If your test displays a blank page or grey screen instead of loading the questions, the most common cause is that you are signed into a Google account that does not have access to the test form.
## Why This Happens
When a test administrator restricts access to specific email addresses, Google Forms blocks anyone signed in with a different account. AutoProctor loads the Google Form within its own interface, so you see a blank or grey screen instead of the form's own error message.
## How to Fix It
Visit [accounts.google.com/Logout](https://accounts.google.com/Logout) to sign out of all your Google accounts.
Sign in with the Google account that has been granted access to the test. This is usually the email address your test administrator provided instructions for.
Navigate back to the test link and load it again. The form should now display correctly.
If the page is still blank, open the test link in an **Incognito window** (`Ctrl+Shift+N` on Windows or `Cmd+Shift+N` on Mac). Incognito starts a fresh session without cached accounts or permissions, which often resolves the issue.

# How to Cancel Your Subscription
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/cancel-subscription
Step-by-step guide to cancel your AutoProctor subscription, with answers to common questions about what happens after cancellation.
Cancelling your AutoProctor subscription takes just a few clicks. This guide walks you through the process and answers common questions about what to expect after cancellation.
## Cancel Your Subscription
From your dashboard, click on the **Billing** link in the left sidebar.
In the **Plan Details** section, click the **Manage Subscription** button.
Click the **Cancel plan** button on the right side of the page.
If you are part of a [Team](/what-is-a-team), only a Team Admin can cancel the subscription. Regular team members do not have access to billing controls.
## What Happens After Cancellation
| Timing | What Happens |
| --------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Immediately after cancelling** | Your subscription is **scheduled to cancel** at the end of your current billing period. You retain full access until then. |
| **During the remaining billing period** | You and your candidates can continue using AutoProctor. You can still purchase additional credits. |
| **After the billing period ends** | Subscription status changes to **Expired**. Candidates cannot start new tests. You lose access to full results. Your credit balance resets to 0. |
## Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. The tests you created and their settings are **not deleted**. However, you cannot access the full results of those tests until you resubscribe.
Yes. While technically you create a new subscription rather than renewing the old one, the effect is the same. You can resume using your account immediately after purchasing a new subscription.
Yes. If your subscription is scheduled to cancel but has not yet expired, you can undo the cancellation. Follow the same steps above to open **Manage Subscription** and reverse the scheduled cancellation.

# Instructions Page for Candidates
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/candidate-instructions-page
Learn how the pre-test instructions page works, what candidates see before starting a test, and how to add custom instructions.
Every AutoProctor test begins with an instructions page that explains how proctoring works, which features are active, and what candidates should expect. The page content adapts automatically based on your test configuration, and candidates can also take a demo test from this page to verify device compatibility.
## How the Instructions Page Works
The instructions page is **automatically active on all tests**. Candidates see it immediately after clicking the test link. You cannot disable this page -- it ensures every candidate understands the test rules before they begin.
The page includes:
* An explanation of which proctoring features are enabled for the test
* Browser and device requirements
* A link to a demo test so candidates can verify their setup
* Any custom instructions you add (Elite plan required)
## Adding Custom Instructions
You can include your own instructions (maximum 200 words) that appear on the instructions page alongside the default content.
Navigate to your test's settings page in the [AutoProctor dashboard](https://www.autoproctor.co/test-admin/home/).
Scroll down to the **Advanced Settings** section.
Type your custom instructions in the **Additional Instructions** field. You can add up to 200 words.
Save the test settings. Your custom instructions will now appear on the instructions page for all candidates.
Adding custom instructions requires an **Elite plan** subscription. See [Elite Features](/elite-plan-features) for details on what the Elite plan includes.
## Gathering Additional Information from Candidates
You can use the **Gather Additional Details** feature in Advanced Settings to collect extra information from candidates. This form appears on the instructions page and candidates must complete it before starting the test.
## Frequently Asked Questions
Yes -- click your own test link to see exactly what candidates will see. Viewing the instructions page does not consume a credit.
No -- credits are only deducted when a candidate successfully starts the test, not when they view the instructions page.
No -- the default sections are fixed and cannot be removed. You can only add additional instructions on top of the existing content.

# Candidate Login Methods
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/candidate-login-methods
Understand the available login options for candidates taking tests on AutoProctor, including which sign-in methods work with each quiz provider.
Candidates must log in before attempting any test on AutoProctor. Login is required so that AutoProctor can distinguish between individual submissions when multiple candidates use the same test link.
## Available Login Methods
AutoProctor offers three sign-in options for candidates:
* **Sign in with Google** -- uses the candidate's Google account
* **Sign in with Microsoft** -- uses the candidate's Microsoft account
* **Sign in with Email** -- the candidate enters their email address directly (no third-party account required)
## Login Methods by Quiz Provider
The available sign-in methods depend on which quiz provider you use:
| Quiz Provider | Available Sign-in Methods |
| ------------------ | ------------------------- |
| Socratease Quizzes | Google, Microsoft, Email |
| Google Forms | Google only |
| Microsoft Forms | Microsoft only |
| IFrame Tests | Google, Microsoft, Email |
Google Forms tests require Google sign-in because AutoProctor needs to pass the candidate's Google identity to the form. The same applies to Microsoft Forms with Microsoft sign-in. Socratease and IFrame tests have no such restriction, so all three login methods are available.
To restrict which candidates can log in to your test, see [Restricting by Email](/restrict-access-by-email). You can limit access to specific email addresses or email domains.

# Cannot Click on Answers in Test Form
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/cannot-click-answers-during-test
Fix the issue where your test form loads but you cannot click on questions or select answers. Usually caused by being signed into the wrong Google account.
If you can see the test form but cannot click on questions or select answers, you are most likely signed into a Google account that does not have permission to interact with the form.
## Why This Happens
When a Google Form is restricted to specific email addresses, it loads in a read-only preview mode for unauthorized accounts. You can see the questions but cannot interact with them. Since AutoProctor embeds the Google Form within its interface, this restriction appears inside the AutoProctor test window.
## How to Fix It
Visit [accounts.google.com/Logout](https://accounts.google.com/Logout) and sign out of all your accounts.
Sign back in with the Google account that has been granted access to the test. Check with your test administrator if you are unsure which account to use.
Navigate back to the test link and load it again. You should now be able to click on questions and select answers.
If you are unsure which Google account has access, contact your test administrator. They can confirm the email address that was granted permission to take the test.

# Device Compatibility
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/device-compatibility
Check which browsers, operating systems, and devices are supported for taking proctored tests on AutoProctor.
AutoProctor runs AI monitoring algorithms directly on the candidate's device, which requires specific browser features and adequate processing power. Before taking a proctored test, candidates must confirm their browser and device meet the minimum requirements listed below.
## Supported Browsers and Devices
| Operating System | Browser | Minimum Version |
| -------------------------- | ------- | --------------- |
| Windows | Chrome | 82 |
| Windows | Firefox | 78 |
| Windows | Edge | 88 |
| Linux | Chrome | 82 |
| macOS | Safari | 12 |
| macOS | Chrome | 82 |
| macOS | Firefox | 78 |
| Android | Chrome | 82 |
| iOS (iPad/iPhone) | Safari | 14.1 |
| iOS (iPad/iPhone) OS 16.1+ | Chrome | 82 |
Any browser and OS combination **not listed** in the table above is not supported. Candidates using unsupported configurations (for example, Brave on Windows or Opera on Android) may experience loading failures or broken proctoring functionality.
## How to Verify Your Device
Visit the demo test to confirm your device and browser are compatible:
[Take the Demo Test](https://www.autoproctor.co/tests/bj0yv14Ufu/load/)
When prompted, allow your browser to access the camera and microphone. You will also be asked to share your screen — select **Entire screen** and click **Share**. If any of these permissions fail, your browser or device may not be supported.
Work through the demo test to confirm that all proctoring features load correctly, including the camera preview, screen sharing prompt, and full-screen mode.
The demo test does not consume test credits from any account. Candidates can take it as many times as they need.
## Common Compatibility Issues
| Problem | Likely Cause | Solution |
| ---------------------------- | ------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------- |
| Test stuck at loading screen | Unsupported browser or outdated version | Update the browser or switch to Chrome |
| Camera not detected | Browser permissions blocked | Allow camera access in browser settings |

# Does AutoProctor Record Video?
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/does-autoproctor-record-video
Learn how AutoProctor monitors candidates in real time without recording full video sessions, and why this approach is more effective.
**By default, AutoProctor does not record video.** Instead, it continuously monitors the candidate's camera feed in real time directly on their device and only captures evidence (photos, screenshots, and audio clips) when it detects a violation. This gives you the evidence you need without requiring you to watch hours of footage.
You can enable full video recording for an additional fee — see [What If I Still Want to Record Video?](#what-if-i-still-want-to-record-video) below.
## How AutoProctor's AI Monitoring Works
Traditional proctoring platforms record a video from the candidate's camera feed, upload it to their servers, and then process it for violations. In most cases, you are expected to watch the video yourself to verify flagged incidents.
AutoProctor takes a fundamentally different approach. Its AI software monitors the video feed **directly on the candidate's device** and flags violations as they happen. No video is uploaded or stored on any server.
Think of it like a smoke detector: it runs continuously in the background, monitoring all the time, and only alerts you when something is detected.
## Key Advantages
| Advantage | How It Works |
| ---------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **No video review needed** | Violations are flagged automatically with supporting evidence (photos and screenshots), so you do not need to watch hours of footage |
| **Works offline** | Since monitoring happens on-device, violations are detected even if the candidate temporarily disconnects from the internet |
| **Prevents internet-off cheating** | With other platforms, candidates can turn off their internet to avoid being recorded. With AutoProctor, monitoring continues on-device regardless of connectivity |
| **Reduced administrative burden** | You review only flagged incidents instead of full recordings |
| **Lower bandwidth requirements** | No large video files are uploaded during the test, reducing network strain for candidates with slow connections |
Because monitoring happens on the candidate's device, AutoProctor captures violation evidence even when the candidate goes offline. When the candidate reconnects, the evidence syncs to the server. This is a significant advantage over platforms that rely on continuous video upload.
## What Evidence Do You Receive Instead of Video?
When AutoProctor detects a violation, it captures one or more of the following:
* **Photos** -- Snapshots from the camera feed (e.g., when no face or multiple faces are detected)
* **Screenshots** -- Captures of the candidate's screen (e.g., when they switch tabs or applications)
* **Audio clips** -- Recordings of background noise when the microphone detects suspicious audio
* **Random photos** -- Periodic snapshots taken at random intervals throughout the exam
* **Session recording** -- Records of mouse clicks and keyboard activity
All of this evidence appears in the candidate's [proctoring report](/where-to-find-proctoring-results), organized by timestamp and violation type.
Evidence may occasionally be missing from a report if the candidate's device ran out of storage or if the browser restricted access to the camera or microphone mid-test. See [Missing Images and Recordings](/missing-images-and-recordings) for troubleshooting steps.
## What If I Still Want to Record Video?
For compliance or audit purposes, you can enable **video recording** through your [Proctoring Settings](/proctoring-settings) for an additional fee. See the [pricing page](https://www.autoproctor.co/pricing) for details.
When video recording is enabled, you receive **a full video and audio recording of the candidate's entire session** in addition to the standard violation evidence.

# Elite Plan Features
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/elite-plan-features
Explore the exclusive features available only on the AutoProctor Elite plan, including API access, question banks, and advanced question types.
The Elite plan is AutoProctor's most feature-rich tier. It includes everything in the Standard and Premium plans, plus several exclusive capabilities designed for advanced assessment workflows.
## Elite-Only Features
As shown on the [Pricing Page](https://www.autoproctor.co/pricing/), AutoProctor offers three subscription tiers: **Standard**, **Premium**, and **Elite**. The following features are exclusive to Elite.
### API/SDK Access
If you already have your own quizzing or assessment platform and want to add proctoring, you can integrate AutoProctor using the JavaScript SDK. This lets you embed proctoring directly into your existing workflow without requiring candidates to use a separate platform.
### Cloning Quizzes
You can **duplicate Socratease Quizzes in a single click**. This is especially useful when you need to create multiple quizzes that share a similar structure but differ in specific questions or settings.
### Unique URL per Candidate
Generate a unique test link for each candidate so a single link cannot be forwarded to unintended recipients. See [Unique URL per Candidate](/advanced-exam-settings#unique-url-per-candidate-elite) for setup.
### Additional Instructions
Add custom instructions to the candidate instructions page — useful for sharing specific rules, context, or guidelines before the test begins. See [Additional Instructions](/advanced-exam-settings#additional-instructions-elite) for details.
The following features (Question Banks, More Question Types, and Import From Excel) apply specifically to Socratease Quizzes.
### Question Banks
Question Banks let you create large pools of questions and dynamically select subsets for each candidate. This supports two key use cases:
| Use Case | Example |
| ------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Random subset by difficulty** | Select 5 easy and 2 hard MCQs from a pool of 100 questions |
| **Combine multiple pools** | Draw 3 Physics and 2 Chemistry MCQs from two separate pools of 100 each |
For a detailed guide, see [Question Banks](/question-banks).
### More Question Types
Socratease Quizzes support many question formats. The following are exclusive to the Elite plan:
Candidates record themselves speaking the answer. Useful for language assessments, oral exams, and presentation-style questions.
You specify the correct answer when creating the question. If the candidate's submission matches exactly, they receive full points. Otherwise, they receive 0 points.
Present multiple questions (for example, 5) and allow candidates to answer a subset (for example, 3). The numbers are fully configurable.
For the full list of question types, see [Socratease Question Types](/socratease-question-types).
### Import From Excel
Using the AutoProctor Excel template, you can **bulk upload questions** onto a Socratease Quiz. This is ideal for migrating existing question sets or creating large assessments quickly. See [Bulk Import from Excel](/import-questions-from-excel) for step-by-step instructions.

# Enhanced Proctoring
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/enhanced-proctoring
Set up ID card verification, impersonation detection, 360-degree proctoring, session recording, and candidate video recording for advanced anti-cheating protection.
Enhanced Proctoring adds advanced identity verification and monitoring features beyond standard proctoring. These features help prevent impersonation, detect AI tools, and create a comprehensive record of each test attempt, including full candidate video.
Most enhanced proctoring features require **4 additional credits per attempt**. Candidate Video Recording costs **15 credits per attempt**. If you enable multiple enhanced features, the credit cost is cumulative.
## Available Features
### ID Card Verification
ID Card Verification confirms the candidate's identity by matching their uploaded ID against their test photo and entered name.
Toggle the **ID Card Verification** option in the Enhanced Proctoring section of your test settings.
When starting the test, the candidate is prompted to upload a photo of their ID card. Accepted documents include candidate ID cards, passports, driver's licenses, and government-issued IDs.
The system compares the photo and name on the ID card against the Photo Before Test Start and the name the candidate entered on the platform.
**Photo Before Test Start** must be enabled in the basic proctoring settings for ID Card Verification to work effectively.
### Impersonation Detection
Impersonation Detection monitors whether someone other than the original candidate attempts or continues the test. AutoProctor compares periodic photos taken during the test against the initial photo to detect face changes.
### Auxiliary Device (360° Proctoring)
The Auxiliary Device feature enables 360-degree proctoring by pairing the candidate's phone with their laptop. This provides a secondary camera angle that captures the candidate's physical environment.
Toggle the **Auxiliary Device** option in Enhanced Proctoring settings.
When the test starts, the candidate scans a QR code on their laptop screen using their phone camera. This pairs the two devices.
The phone camera captures the candidate's desk, surroundings, and screen from a different angle. This also helps detect AI tools that display answers as overlays on the screen.
### Session Recording
Session Recording captures a complete record of the candidate's screen activity throughout the test, including mouse clicks and keyboard input. This creates a reviewable timeline of the entire test attempt.
### Candidate Video Recording
Candidate Video Recording captures the candidate's full video from their webcam throughout the entire test. This lets the examiner watch the candidate's behavior during the test, providing the most complete evidence of test integrity.
Candidate Video Recording costs **15 credits per attempt** and is **not included** in the enhanced proctoring bundle discount.
[Try the enhanced proctoring demo](https://www.autoproctor.co/tests/aux-demo/) to see these features in action before enabling them on your test.
## Credit Cost Summary
| Feature | Credits per Attempt |
| ------------------------------------- | ------------------------ |
| ID Card Verification | 4 |
| Impersonation Detection | 4 |
| Auxiliary Device (360°) | 4 |
| Session Recording | 4 |
| Candidate Video Recording | 15 |
| All 4 features combined (excl. Video) | 12 (25% bundle discount) |
The 25% bundle discount applies when you enable ID Card Verification, Impersonation Detection, Auxiliary Device, and Session Recording together. Candidate Video Recording is billed separately at 15 credits per attempt.

# False 'Switched to Different Application'
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/false-app-switch-alert
Why the 'Switched to different application' violation may appear falsely in reports and why it has negligible impact on Trust Scores during real tests.
You may notice a "Switched to different application" violation appearing in a proctoring report even though the candidate did not actually switch applications. This is a known edge case that has negligible impact on real test scores.
## Why False Positives Happen
AutoProctor detects application switches by monitoring browser focus events and visibility state changes. False positives can occur due to:
* **Operating system notifications** -- incoming notifications (such as calendar reminders or system updates) can momentarily shift focus away from the browser
* **Browser-level popups** -- permission dialogs, download prompts, or autofill suggestions can trigger a focus change event
* **Peripheral device activity** -- connecting or disconnecting USB devices, headphones, or external monitors can briefly interrupt browser focus
* **Multi-monitor setups** -- moving the cursor near screen edges on multi-monitor configurations may trigger false detections on some operating systems
These events register as an "app switch" even though the candidate never intentionally left the test.
## Why This Does Not Affect Real Test Scores
An actual test lasts at least several minutes. Even if AutoProctor falsely detects a single "Switched to different application" event, its impact on the Trust Score is negligible because the score weighs violations relative to the total test duration.
On demo tests, which last only a few seconds, a single false detection can noticeably lower the Trust Score. This is simply because the test is too short for the score to absorb it.
If you see this violation on a demo test, do not worry about it. On actual tests lasting several minutes or longer, a single false detection has no meaningful impact on the Trust Score.
## How to Interpret This Violation
| Scenario | Likely Explanation |
| ------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| One or two "app switch" events alongside a high Trust Score | Very likely a false positive caused by notifications, popups, or peripheral activity |
| Many "app switch" events or events alongside other violations | Warrants further review of the full report and evidence photos |

# AutoProctor Add-On Error
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/google-forms-addon-error
Fix the issue where the AutoProctor Google Forms add-on only shows 'Help' instead of 'Settings' or 'Results'.
If the AutoProctor Google Forms add-on displays only a **"Help"** option instead of the expected **"Settings"** or **"Results"** options, you are experiencing a known Google Add-On issue. This happens frequently with Google Workspace add-ons and can usually be resolved by updating Chrome or clearing cached permissions.
## How to Fix It
Install the latest version of [Google Chrome](https://www.google.com/intl/en_in/chrome/) to ensure compatibility with Google Workspace add-ons.
Open the Google Form in an **Incognito window** (press `Ctrl+Shift+N` on Windows or `Cmd+Shift+N` on Mac). Incognito mode clears cached permissions that often cause this issue.
If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall the [AutoProctor add-on](https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/timer_+_proctor_google_forms_autoproctor/691377974459) from the Google Workspace Marketplace.
If none of the steps above resolve the issue, contact us at **[hello@autoproctor.co](mailto:hello@autoproctor.co)** with a screenshot of the error and we will get back to you.

# Cannot See Questions on Google Forms
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/google-forms-questions-not-visible
Understand why questions may not be visible on a Google Form loaded through AutoProctor and how to resolve access restriction errors.
AutoProctor loads your Google Form within its own site for proctoring. If the Google Form has an access restriction or other error, that same error message appears inside the AutoProctor interface. AutoProctor cannot control or modify anything inside the Google Form due to privacy restrictions.
## Why Questions Are Not Visible
Google Forms can restrict access based on organization, email domain, or specific accounts. When you are signed in with an account that does not meet these restrictions, Google blocks the form content and shows an error message instead.
## How to Fix It
Read the error message displayed on the form. It typically explains whether the form is restricted to certain users or an organization.
Log out of your current Google account at [accounts.google.com/Logout](https://accounts.google.com/Logout), then sign in with the account that has access to the form.
If you are unsure which account to use or believe you should have access, contact the person who created the test. They may need to update the form's sharing settings.
## Why AutoProctor Cannot Fix This
Due to privacy restrictions, Google does not allow AutoProctor to access or modify anything inside a Google Form. AutoProctor can only load the form -- it cannot control the form's content, access settings, or error messages. If you encounter a form access issue, only the form creator can resolve it.
AutoProctor embeds Google Forms similarly to how websites embed YouTube videos. If a YouTube video shows an error on an external site, the issue is with YouTube, not the embedding site. The same applies to Google Forms on AutoProctor -- any errors you see originate from Google, not from AutoProctor.

# Cannot See Response in Google Form
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/google-forms-response-not-visible
Understand why responses may appear on AutoProctor but not in Google Forms, or vice versa. Usually caused by missing one of the two submit buttons.
If you can see a candidate's response on AutoProctor but not in Google Forms (or vice versa), the candidate most likely skipped one of the two required submit buttons. This is the primary reason responses go missing between the two platforms.
## Understanding the Two Submit Buttons
Candidates must click **two separate submit buttons** to complete a Google Forms-based test on AutoProctor:
1. **Purple Submit button** (inside the Google Form) -- submits answers to the Google Forms Responses section
2. **Green Submit button** (at the top of the page) -- submits the proctoring or timed session to AutoProctor
### If the Candidate Skips the Green Submit Button
You will see the candidate's answers in the **Google Forms Responses** section but will not see any results on AutoProctor. The proctoring session was not finalized.
### If the Candidate Skips the Purple Submit Button
You will see the test marked as submitted on **AutoProctor**, but the candidate's answers will not appear in Google Forms Responses. The form answers were never sent to Google.
Due to privacy restrictions, Google does not let AutoProctor detect whether the purple submit button was clicked. There is no way for AutoProctor to enforce this step automatically.
## Ensure You Share the AutoProctor Link
You must send candidates the **AutoProctor link** (containing `autoproctor.co` in the URL). If you send the direct Google Form link instead, candidates will bypass AutoProctor entirely and no proctoring data will be recorded.
## Why AutoProctor Cannot Fix This
AutoProctor embeds Google Forms similarly to how websites embed YouTube videos. Google does not allow AutoProctor to access or control anything that happens inside the form. If a submission issue occurs within the Google Form, only Google controls that behavior.
To avoid confusion with two submit buttons, consider using [Socratease quizzes](/why-socratease) instead of Google Forms. Socratease has a single submit button that handles both quiz answers and proctoring in one step.

# How to Logout of AutoProctor
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/how-to-logout
Steps to log out of your AutoProctor session on mobile and desktop devices so you can switch to a different account.
You may need to log out of AutoProctor if you want to switch to a different account or if you accidentally logged in with the wrong credentials.
## How to Logout
Click on your **name** at the top right of the screen (where it says "Hey, ...").
Click **Logout** from the dropdown menu.
## Alternative Method
If the standard logout does not work, you can force a logout by signing out of all your Google accounts.
Go to [accounts.google.com/Logout](https://accounts.google.com/Logout) to sign out of all your Google accounts.
Navigate back to your test link and sign in with the correct account.

# Submit Button: Socratease vs Other Quizzes
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/how-to-submit-quiz
Understand the key differences in how submission works between Socratease quizzes and other quiz types on AutoProctor, and why Socratease eliminates the risk of lost answers.
The submission process differs depending on which quiz provider you use. Socratease quizzes use a single submit button, which eliminates the risk of answer loss. Other quiz types (Google Forms, Microsoft Forms, etc.) require two submit buttons clicked in the correct order.
## Non-Socratease Quizzes (Google Forms, Microsoft Forms, etc.)
When AutoProctor embeds external forms, you must **submit twice** because privacy restrictions prevent external platforms from notifying AutoProctor when a submission occurs:
Click the **purple submit button** at the bottom of the form to save your quiz answers to the quiz provider (Google Forms, Microsoft Forms, etc.).
Click the **green submit button** at the top of the page to submit the proctoring or timed session to AutoProctor.
If you do not submit the quiz answers **first** (purple button), all your answers will be lost. This cannot be recovered. Due to privacy restrictions, Google and Microsoft do not allow AutoProctor to detect whether the purple submit button was clicked, so AutoProctor cannot enforce this step automatically.
## Socratease Quizzes
Socratease quizzes use a **single submit button**. One click submits both your answers and the proctoring session -- no confusion, no risk of answer loss.
Socratease Quizzes are available on **all plans**, including the free trial. See [Why Socratease?](/why-socratease) for more benefits.
## Comparison
| Feature | Non-Socratease (Google Forms, etc.) | Socratease |
| ------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ |
| Number of submit buttons | 2 (purple then green) | 1 |
| Risk of lost answers | Yes, if buttons clicked in wrong order | None |
| Why two buttons? | Privacy restrictions prevent external platforms from notifying AutoProctor | Not applicable -- Socratease is built into AutoProctor |

# IFrame Query Arguments
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/iframe-query-arguments
Append query parameters to iframe URLs in AutoProctor's Advanced Settings to customize embedded content.
When you use the **IFrame/Other** quiz provider, you can append query parameters to your embedded quiz URL through AutoProctor's **Advanced Settings**. This lets you customize how the embedded content behaves -- for example, forcing a specific language or enabling embedded mode -- without modifying the original URL.
## How It Works
AutoProctor constructs the final URL by appending your query arguments to the original quiz URL. You provide only the parameters; AutoProctor adds the `?` prefix automatically.
Navigate to your test and open the **Advanced Settings** section.
Type your parameters in the **Query Arguments** field. Use the format `key1=val1&key2=val2`.
Save your test settings. AutoProctor appends your parameters to the quiz URL when rendering the iframe.
### Example
If your original URL is:
```
www.website.com
```
And you enter the following in the **Query Arguments** field:
```
key1=val1&key2=val2
```
AutoProctor renders the iframe as:
```
www.website.com?key1=val1&key2=val2
```
Do not include the `?` prefix in your query arguments. AutoProctor adds it automatically when constructing the URL.
## Common Parameters
| Parameter | Purpose | Example Use Case |
| --------------- | --------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------ |
| `hl=en` | Set the language to English | Render a Google Form in English for international candidates |
| `hl=fr` | Set the language to French | Render a Google Form in French |
| `embedded=true` | Force embedded mode | Ensure certain platforms display correctly inside the iframe |

# Bulk Import Questions from Excel
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/import-questions-from-excel
Import multiple-choice questions from an Excel file into your Socratease quiz.
The Bulk Import feature lets you import multiple-choice questions from an Excel file into Socratease Quizzes. This saves significant time when you have many questions in an existing Excel or Word format, or when multiple people collaborate on a large question set.
Bulk Import is available to **Elite Plan** customers only. See [Elite Features](/elite-plan-features) for details.
## How to Import Questions
Open your quiz in the Socratease editor and download the Excel template. This template contains the required column headers and formatting.
Fill in the template with your questions, answer choices, and correct answer indicators. See the column reference below for details on each field.
Upload the completed Excel file to your quiz. The questions import automatically and appear in your quiz editor.
## Excel Template Column Reference
| Column | Required | Description |
| ------------------ | :------: | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Question Type** | Yes | `MCQ` for single correct answer, or `MCA` for multiple correct answers |
| **Question** | Yes | The question text |
| **Opt1 -- Opt5** | No | Answer choices. Use only as many as needed (e.g., if you have 3 options, fill Opt1, Opt2, Opt3 and leave Opt4 and Opt5 blank) |
| **CorrectAnsInd** | Yes | For MCQ: a single number indicating the correct option (e.g., `2` for Opt2). For MCA: comma-separated numbers without spaces (e.g., `2,3` for Opt2 and Opt3) |
| **Markdown** | No | Enter `1` to format the question text as Markdown |
| **Points** | No | Point value for a correct answer |
| **Time (seconds)** | No | Time limit per question, in seconds |
| **Image** | No | A direct URL to an image file (.jpg, .png, etc.) to display with the question |
The **Image** column requires a direct URL to the image file. Google Drive sharing links are **not** supported. Use a direct link that ends in a file extension like `.jpg` or `.png`.
## Tips for a Successful Import
* Fields marked with **Required: Yes** must be filled in for every question.
* You can leave optional columns blank if they are not needed.
* Make sure the column headers match the template exactly -- do not rename or reorder columns.
* For MCA questions, separate the correct answer numbers with a comma and **no space** (e.g., `2,3` not `2, 3`).
* If you import a large number of questions, consider breaking them into smaller batches to make troubleshooting easier.
Bulk Import currently supports **MCQ** and **MCA** question types only. For other question types, add them manually through the quiz editor. See [Question Types](/socratease-question-types) for the full list of available formats.

# Incorrect Candidate Name in Results
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/incorrect-candidate-name-in-results
Fix incorrect candidate names showing in the results page or Excel export. Names are pulled from the candidate's linked Google or Microsoft account profile.
AutoProctor does not ask candidates to type their name directly. Instead, it pulls the name from the account used to sign in. If a candidate's name appears incorrectly in results, the issue originates from their account profile -- not from AutoProctor.
## Why This Happens
AutoProctor retrieves candidate names from the authentication provider they used to sign in:
| Sign-in Method | Name Source |
| ----------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Google account | Display name set in [Google Account settings](https://myaccount.google.com/personal-info) |
| Microsoft account | Display name set in [Microsoft Account settings](https://account.microsoft.com/profile) |
If the name on their Google or Microsoft account is incorrect, misspelled, or uses a nickname, that same name will appear in AutoProctor results.
AutoProctor pulls candidate names directly from their account profile. If the name is wrong in results, the candidate needs to update their profile on AutoProctor directly.
## How to Fix It
Find the email address associated with the candidate's test attempt on the results page.
Have the candidate visit [autoproctor.co/account/edit-profile](https://www.autoproctor.co/account/edit-profile/) and update their name. Share this link with the candidate along with a note identifying which email address needs the correction.
Once the candidate updates their name on their AutoProctor profile, the change automatically reflects across all existing test reports. No further action is needed from the test administrator.

# Inviting Candidates via Email
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/invite-candidates-via-email
Generate unique invitation links tied to specific email addresses for controlled test access with email verification on AutoProctor.
Unique invitation links let you generate a distinct test URL for each candidate, tied to their email address. When a candidate opens their link, AutoProctor sends a one-time verification code to confirm their identity before granting access to the test.
This feature is available only on the **Elite Plan** and works exclusively with **Socratease Quizzes** and **IFrame Tests**. It is not compatible with Google Forms or Microsoft Forms, as those require platform-specific sign-in. See [Payments and Credits](/payments-and-credits) for plan details.
## How to Set Up Unique Invitation Links
Open your test settings and enable the **Unique URL** option.
Upload candidate email addresses via a CSV file. You can upload a maximum of 1,000 email addresses at once.
AutoProctor generates a text output containing email addresses and their corresponding unique test links as comma-separated columns.
Paste the output into a spreadsheet application and split on the comma separator to organize email addresses and links into separate columns.
Send the unique links to your candidates via email, your learning management system, or another distribution method.
## How Verification Works
When a candidate clicks their unique link, AutoProctor sends a one-time verification code to the email address associated with that link. The candidate must enter this code to access the test. This ensures only the intended recipient can use each link.
## Important Limitations
| Limitation | Details |
| --------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Standard URL disabled | Once you enable this feature, the standard shared test URL stops working. Only the unique per-candidate URLs grant access. |
| No revocation | You cannot invalidate sent invitations after they are generated. |
| No free trial | This feature cannot be tested before purchasing the Elite Plan. |
| Batch limit | You can upload a maximum of 1,000 email addresses at once. |
After enabling unique URLs, the common test link stops working immediately. Make sure you are ready to distribute the individual links before enabling this feature.
## Bulk Email Service
For large-scale campaigns exceeding 5,000 candidates, AutoProctor offers an email distribution service at \$100 per 5,000 messages. This requires sufficient account balance and submission of your CSV file and email content to the AutoProctor team. [Contact us](/contact-us) for details.

# Invoices and Receipts for Payments
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/invoices-and-receipts
Learn how to access, download, and manage invoices and receipts for all your AutoProctor subscription and credit purchases.
AutoProctor automatically generates an invoice and receipt for every successful payment. This article explains how to access your invoices and answers common questions about billing documents.
## When Are Invoices Generated?
Invoices are generated for two types of payments:
| Payment Type | When It Happens |
| ------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Subscription creation and renewal** | When you first subscribe or when your plan auto-renews |
| **Credit top-ups** | When you purchase additional credits through Test Packs |
For each payment, an invoice and receipt are automatically emailed to the account holder.
If you are part of a [Team](/what-is-a-team), the person who made the initial purchase receives the invoice emails. All Team Admins can also download invoices from the Billing section.
## Downloading Invoices
If you cannot find the invoice email or need to download a copy:
Click on the **Billing** link in your left sidebar.
Scroll to the payment history area. Each payment entry includes a download link for the corresponding invoice.
Click the download link to save the invoice as a PDF to your device.
You can learn more about the Billing section in the [Editing Billing Information](/edit-billing-information) article.
## Sample Invoice
Below is an example of what an AutoProctor invoice looks like:
## Frequently Asked Questions
Check your spam or junk folder. If you are part of a Team, the invoice may have been sent to the Team Admin who made the original purchase. You can also download the invoice directly from the **Billing** section.

# Using LaTeX for Math Equations
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/latex-math-equations
Add mathematical equations to your Socratease quizzes using LaTeX syntax.
Socratease supports LaTeX, the global standard for writing mathematical equations used in academic publications, textbooks, and research papers worldwide. Instead of inserting equation images or using simplified text notation like `a^2` or `3/4`, you can write properly formatted equations directly in your quiz questions.
LaTeX equation support is exclusive to AutoProctor's **Socratease Quizzes**. It is not available when using other quiz providers.
## How to Write LaTeX Equations
To include a LaTeX equation in your quiz, enclose the equation between `\(` and `\)` delimiters.
**Example:**
```
\(a^2 + b^2 = c^2\)
```
This renders as the familiar Pythagorean theorem: a squared plus b squared equals c squared.
## What LaTeX Supports
LaTeX can render any mathematical notation, including:
| Notation | LaTeX Syntax | Description |
| ---------------- | --------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------- |
| Basic arithmetic | `\(a + b = c\)` | Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division |
| Exponents | `\(x^2\)` | Superscripts and powers |
| Subscripts | `\(a_n\)` | Subscript notation |
| Fractions | `\(\frac{a}{b}\)` | Fraction notation |
| Square roots | `\(\sqrt{x}\)` | Square and nth roots |
| Integrals | `\(\int_0^1 x^2 dx\)` | Definite and indefinite integrals |
| Summations | `\(\sum_{i=1}^{n} i\)` | Summation notation |
| Greek letters | `\(\alpha, \beta, \gamma\)` | All Greek letter symbols |
You can also use any other standard LaTeX mathematical notation beyond the examples listed above.
## Enabling LaTeX
Open your Socratease Quiz on AutoProctor.
Click the **Settings** icon (gear) in the quiz editor toolbar.
Toggle on the **LaTeX Support** setting. This activates LaTeX rendering for all questions in the quiz.
Write your equations in question text using the `\(` and `\)` delimiters. The equations render as formatted math when candidates view the quiz.
Make sure you enable the LaTeX Support toggle in quiz settings **before** sharing the test. If LaTeX is not enabled, candidates will see the raw LaTeX syntax instead of rendered equations.
## Try It Out
You can see a sample quiz demonstrating LaTeX equation rendering at:

# Concurrency - Max Simultaneous Candidates
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/max-simultaneous-candidates
Understand AutoProctor's concurrency limits that control how many candidates can start tests simultaneously within a 60-second window.
Concurrency controls how many candidates can start any test under your account within the same 60-second window. Understanding these limits helps you plan large-scale test sessions and avoid unexpected delays for candidates.
## What Is Max Concurrency?
Max concurrency is the maximum number of candidates who can begin a test within any rolling 60-second period. This limit applies across **all tests on your account**, not per individual test.
If you have three active tests and a concurrency limit of 1,000, the 1,000 limit is shared across all three tests combined -- not 1,000 per test.
## Concurrency Limits by Plan
### Tests with Proctoring Enabled
| Plan | Max Concurrency |
| -------- | ----------------------- |
| Standard | 1,000 candidates/minute |
| Premium | 2,000 candidates/minute |
| Elite | 5,000 candidates/minute |
### Tests Without Proctoring
| Plan | Max Concurrency |
| -------- | --------------------- |
| Standard | 50 candidates/minute |
| Premium | 100 candidates/minute |
| Elite | 150 candidates/minute |
## Automated Staggering
When demand exceeds your plan's capacity, AutoProctor automatically staggers candidate entry. Candidates who exceed the limit see a button with a countdown of up to 60 seconds before they can access the test.
If your test has a duration configured, AutoProctor automatically adjusts each candidate's timer to account for staggering delays. No candidate loses test time due to concurrency limits.
## SDK Users
If you use AutoProctor's JavaScript SDK on your own website, you receive a default limit of 5,000 candidates per minute. When this limit is exceeded, the SDK returns a 429 (Too Many Requests) response. You must handle rate-limiting independently in your implementation.
SDK users do not benefit from automatic staggering. You must build your own retry logic to handle 429 responses when your concurrency limit is exceeded.
## Increasing Your Limits
If you need higher concurrency limits, [contact the AutoProctor team](/contact-us):
| Increase Type | Approximate Cost | Details |
| -------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------- |
| Temporary (one-time event) | \$500 per 500 candidates/minute increment | One-time fee |
| Permanent | \$2,500/month per 500 candidates/minute increment | Annual commitment required |
The platform supports up to a maximum of 25,000 candidates per minute.

# Maximum Attempts for a Test
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/maximum-exam-attempts
Configure how many times candidates can attempt a test on AutoProctor and understand how attempt tracking works across login methods.
The **Max Attempts** setting lets you control how many times each candidate can take a specific test. Once a candidate reaches the limit, AutoProctor blocks further attempts and displays a notification.
## How to Configure Maximum Attempts
Navigate to your test on the [AutoProctor dashboard](https://www.autoproctor.co/test-admin/home/) and click the **Settings** button.
In the **Main Settings** section, locate the **Max Attempts** field and enter the number of allowed attempts.
Click **Create** or **Update** to apply the setting.
When a candidate exceeds their allowed attempts, they see a restriction message and cannot proceed.
## Recommended Configuration
| Test Type | Recommended Max Attempts | Reason |
| --------------- | ------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Google Forms | 1 | AutoProctor [automatically resumes](/resume-exam-attempts) these tests if candidates reload or revisit the link |
| Socratease Quiz | 1 | AutoProctor [automatically resumes](/resume-exam-attempts) these tests if candidates reload or revisit the link |
| Microsoft Forms | Based on your needs | Each visit creates a new attempt; resumption is not supported |
| IFrame Tests | Based on your needs | Configurable resume behavior; adjust attempts accordingly |
For Google Forms and Socratease Quizzes, set **Max Attempts** to **1**. AutoProctor automatically [resumes these tests](/resume-exam-attempts) if candidates reload the page or revisit the link, so multiple attempts are not needed for resumption.
## How Attempts Are Tracked
AutoProctor tracks attempts by the email address used to sign in. This means:
* Each unique email address counts as a separate candidate, regardless of who is behind it.
* If a candidate signs in with different email addresses across attempts (for example, using **Sign in with Google** once and **Sign in with Email** another time with a different address), each email counts separately, effectively bypassing the attempt limit.
If a candidate uses different login methods that resolve to different email addresses, each one counts as a separate candidate. This can allow them to bypass the maximum attempts limit.
## Preventing Attempt Limit Bypass
To prevent candidates from circumventing the maximum attempts setting:
* **Restrict login methods** -- Choose a test type that supports only one sign-in option. Google Forms restricts candidates to Google sign-in only, and Microsoft Forms restricts to Microsoft sign-in only. See [Candidate Login Methods](/candidate-login-methods).
* **Use email restrictions** -- Limit access to specific email domains or addresses so candidates cannot use alternative accounts. See [Restrict Test Access by Email Address](/restrict-access-by-email).
* **Use unique invitation links** -- Generate per-candidate URLs that enforce email verification. See [Inviting Candidates via Email](/invite-candidates-via-email).

# Missing Images and Recordings in Report
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/missing-images-and-recordings
Understand why images or audio recordings may not appear in a candidate's test report despite violations being listed, and how to fix it.
If you can see violations listed in a candidate's test report but cannot see the supporting evidence (images or audio recordings), there are two possible scenarios, each with a different cause and resolution.
## Scenario 1: No Images or Recordings at All
If no images or recordings appear despite violations being listed, the evidence recording feature was likely disabled in your test settings.
Navigate to your test's proctoring configuration in the [AutoProctor dashboard](https://www.autoproctor.co/test-admin/home/) and verify that evidence recording is enabled. See [Proctoring Settings](/proctoring-settings) for details on each option.
If evidence recording was disabled, enable it for future tests. Note that this change will not retroactively add evidence to tests that have already been taken.
## Scenario 2: Some Violations Have Evidence, Others Do Not
If some violations show evidence files while others do not, this is expected behavior. AutoProctor stores a fixed number (approximately 20) of images and audio files per test attempt. When violations exceed this limit, not every violation will have an associated evidence file.
| What You See | What It Means |
| ----------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------ |
| No evidence files at all | Evidence recording is likely disabled in test settings |
| Some violations have files, others do not | Storage limit reached -- normal behavior |
**All violations are tracked and affect the Trust Score**, even when evidence files are not stored for viewing. The evidence files are a subset -- they exist so you can review what happened, but the Trust Score calculation considers every detected violation regardless of whether evidence was stored.

# Missing Random Photos in Report
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/missing-random-photos
Understand why random photos may not appear in a candidate's proctoring report and how the random photo capture system works during tests.
Random photos are captured at unpredictable moments during a test to provide unbiased evidence of the candidate's environment and behavior. If you do not see random photos in a proctoring report, the candidate likely submitted the test before the system had a chance to capture them.
## Why Random Photos Matter
Random photos serve as an independent verification tool. Unlike violation-triggered photos (which are taken when an anomaly is detected), random photos capture the candidate at arbitrary moments. This helps you verify that the candidate was present, alone, and following test rules throughout the entire session -- not just when a violation occurred.
## Why Random Photos Are Missing
AutoProctor schedules random photo captures at unpredictable times throughout the test duration. If a candidate submits the test before any of the scheduled capture times, no random photos will be recorded.
**Example:** For a test with a 5-minute duration, the system might schedule photo captures at 2:00, 4:15, and 4:45. If the candidate submits the test at 1:30, the system has not yet reached any of the scheduled capture times, so no random photos appear in the report.
Random photos only appear if the candidate was actively taking the test at the time the system scheduled the capture. If the test was submitted before any scheduled captures, no random photos will be available.
## How to Reduce the Chance of Missing Random Photos
If random photos are important for your proctoring workflow, consider the following approaches:
| Approach | How It Helps |
| --------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Set a minimum test duration | Longer tests give the system more opportunities to capture random photos |
| Add more questions to your test | More questions typically mean longer test-taking times |
| Require candidates to use the full time | Discourages early submission before photos can be captured |

# Missing Violation Evidence in Report
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/missing-violation-evidence
Learn why some violations in a proctoring report may not have associated evidence files, and understand how this affects Trust Score calculations.
Each test attempt has a maximum number of evidence files it can store. If some violations in a proctoring report are missing their evidence, the total number of violations exceeded this storage limit.
## Understanding Violations vs. Evidence
An event that AutoProctor detects as anomalous. For example, no face detected on the camera feed, or the candidate switching to a different tab.
Supporting documentation of the violation. For example, a photo of the camera feed when no face was detected, or a screenshot of the tab the candidate visited.
The Trust Score is calculated based on the type, frequency, and duration of violations. Evidence files are provided in the proctoring report so you can review what happened during the test.
## Three Reasons for Missing Evidence
### 1. Storage Limit Reached (Most Common)
When a test starts, AutoProctor allocates a fixed number of storage URLs for evidence files. Once this capacity is reached, the system randomly decides whether to overwrite existing evidence or skip storing new evidence (50% probability each).
The Trust Score depends on violations, not on whether evidence is stored. **All violations are tracked and affect the Trust Score** even when evidence files are not available for viewing.
### 2. Device or Internet Issues
The candidate's device or internet connection may have prevented the screenshot from being captured or transmitted to AutoProctor's servers. This is common when candidates experience brief connectivity drops during the test.
### 3. Test Proctoring Settings
The test administrator may have disabled evidence storage through the test's proctoring configuration. Check your [proctoring settings](/proctoring-settings) to confirm that evidence recording is enabled.

# No Face or Multiple Faces Detected Incorrectly
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/no-face-or-multiple-faces-detected
Understand why AutoProctor's AI may incorrectly report face detection violations and how to properly interpret these results in proctoring reports.
AutoProctor uses AI for face detection, and AI is not 100% accurate. You may see "No Face Detected" or "Multiple Faces Detected" violations in a report even when the evidence photo clearly shows a single face present.
## Why This Happens
AutoProctor's AI models are trained on thousands of faces, but they can fail in scenarios that differ from their training data. The three most common causes of incorrect face detection are:
| Cause | Description |
| ------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Complex backgrounds | Busy or colorful backgrounds can confuse the AI into detecting extra faces or missing the real one |
| Head positioning | Candidates looking away from the screen, looking downward, or tilting their head can cause the AI to miss their face |
| Reflective eyewear | Glasses that reflect light or obscure the eyes make it harder for the detection system to identify a face |
## How to Interpret These Violations
AutoProctor provides evidence photos alongside every violation so that you can independently verify the AI's determination. When reviewing face detection violations:
Look at the photo associated with the violation. Does it actually show no face, multiple faces, or is the AI clearly wrong?
A single incorrect detection among many correct ones is likely a false positive. Multiple consecutive detections may warrant closer review.
Poor lighting, unusual angles, or busy backgrounds explain most false detections. Factor in the testing environment before drawing conclusions.
Always review the full report and the provided evidence before concluding whether a candidate cheated. Do not rely solely on automated Trust Scores -- use them as a guide alongside the photographic evidence.

# One-Time Subscription for Infrequent Use
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/one-time-subscription
Learn how to use AutoProctor for a single event or infrequent exams without committing to an ongoing subscription by subscribing and cancelling.
AutoProctor requires an active subscription to function, which means monthly, quarterly, or yearly payments. However, if you only need AutoProctor for a single event -- such as an annual exam or a one-off hiring assessment -- you can use a simple subscribe-and-cancel workflow to pay for only one billing cycle.
## How It Works
Visit the [Pricing Page](https://www.autoproctor.co/pricing/) and subscribe to a monthly plan a few days before your exam. Choose the plan tier (Standard, Premium, or Elite) based on the features you need.
If the credits included with your plan are not enough, purchase additional credits through Test Packs. See [Payments and Credits Explained](/payments-and-credits) for details.
Create your test, share the link with candidates, and run your exam. You have full access to all features included in your plan.
After the exam, download all results and proctoring reports. Make sure you have everything you need before cancelling.
After your subscription expires, you lose access to full test results and your credit balance resets to 0. Download all results before cancellation takes effect.
[Cancel your subscription](/cancel-subscription) a few days after the exam. The cancellation process takes only a few seconds.
Even after cancellation, your subscription remains active for the full billing period from the date of purchase. For example, if you subscribed on March 1st, you retain full access until March 31st regardless of when you cancel.
## Why Choose Monthly for One-Time Use
A monthly plan gives you the shortest commitment period and lowest upfront cost. You get full access to all features in your chosen tier for the entire month, which is typically more than enough time to set up, conduct, and review a single exam.

# Payments and Credits Explained
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/payments-and-credits
Understand how payments, subscriptions, and credits work on AutoProctor, including top-ups, test packs, and credit rollover policies.
AutoProctor uses a credit-based billing system. Every test attempt by a candidate consumes one credit, and you purchase credits through subscriptions and optional top-ups. This page explains the full billing model so you can plan your credit needs.
## Free Credits
When you create a Test Admin account on AutoProctor, you get **10 free credits**. Each credit corresponds to a single test attempt.
For example, with 10 credits you can have 10 candidates attempt 1 test each, or 5 candidates attempt 2 tests each. Once you use up the free credits, you must purchase a subscription to continue.
## Purchase a Subscription
AutoProctor offers **3 plans** and **3 billing frequencies**:
| Plan | Features |
| ------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Standard** | Core proctoring and timer features |
| **Premium** | Standard features + Google Sheets integration, teams, and more |
| **Elite** | Premium features + API access, question banks, and advanced question types |
| Billing Frequency | Renewal Cycle |
| ----------------- | ----------------------------------- |
| **Monthly** | Renews every month on the same date |
| **Quarterly** | Renews every 3 months |
| **Yearly** | Renews every 12 months |
**Example:** If you purchase the Monthly Standard plan on March 5th, you pay X dollars. You are then charged X dollars on the 5th of each subsequent month. If you choose a different frequency (Quarterly, Yearly), the renewal date adjusts accordingly.
Subscriptions auto-renew. To stop the auto-deduction, you must [cancel your subscription](/cancel-subscription) before the renewal date.
When you purchase a subscription, you receive a set number of credits (for example, 150). Every time the subscription renews, the same number of credits are added to your account.
## Top Up Your Subscription
If you need more credits than your plan provides in a given billing cycle, you can purchase **Test Packs**. Each Test Pack contains a fixed number of credits, and you can buy as many as you need.
Top-ups are a **one-time cost**. The credits remain available as long as your subscription is active.
If you purchased Test Packs but cannot see them in your account, see [Purchased Packs Not Showing Up](/purchased-packs-not-showing) for troubleshooting steps.
## Credit Rollover
As long as you maintain an active subscription (meaning you pay each month, quarter, or year), **credits do not expire -- they roll over** into subsequent billing periods.
If you purchased 600 extra credits in one month but only used half of them, the remaining credits carry forward. In the next billing period, you have those unused credits plus your renewal credits, all available for immediate use.
## Discounts
AutoProctor offers discounts on longer billing frequencies (Quarterly and Yearly vs. Monthly) as well as bulk top-up purchases:
| Top-Up Credits | Discount |
| -------------- | -------- |
| 1,500 – 2,999 | 5% off |
| 3,000+ | 10% off |
Visit the [Pricing Page](https://www.autoproctor.co/pricing/) for details and use the Pricing Calculator to estimate your costs.

# Proctoring Settings
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/proctoring-settings
Configure tab switching detection, camera monitoring, microphone recording, full screen enforcement, and other proctoring options.
You must check the **Enable Proctor** checkbox in Main Settings for any of these settings to apply. If proctoring is disabled, candidates take the test without monitoring.
## Basic Proctoring Options
| Setting | What It Does |
| ---------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Tab Switching** | Detects when a candidate switches to a different browser tab or application. Captures a screenshot of the tab they switched to. |
| **Detect Multiple Monitors** | Detects if a candidate has connected external monitors. |
| **Camera** | Detects if no face is visible, or if multiple faces are visible. Captures photos as evidence. |
| **Microphone** | Monitors the sound environment and records audio when noise is detected. |
| **Photos at Random** | Captures random photos throughout the test at randomized intervals. |
| **Enforce Full Screen** | Forces candidates to take the test in full screen mode. Exiting full screen is recorded as a violation. |
| **Enforce Desktop** | Requires a desktop or laptop computer. The test will not load on tablets or mobile devices. |
| **Photo Before Test Start** | Captures a photo of the candidate before the test begins. |
| **Customize Message** | Customize the message candidates see when asked for a photo. Use this to ask candidates to display their ID card. |
**Customize Message** is a Premium feature. See [Feature Comparison](/feature-comparison) for plan details.
## Enhanced Proctoring
Enhanced proctoring adds ID verification, impersonation detection, 360° auxiliary camera, session recording, and candidate video recording. See [Enhanced Proctoring](/enhanced-proctoring) for the full setup guide and credit costs.
## Communication Settings
These settings control how violation evidence is handled and whether candidates are notified:
| Setting | What It Does | Recommendation |
| ------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Me after the Test** | Stores evidence (photos, audio, screenshots) for your review after the test ends. | **Keep enabled** — you need this to review violations. |
| **User during the Test** | Notifies the candidate during the test when a violation is detected. | **Keep enabled** — helps candidates fix harmless issues like background noise. |

# Purchased Packs Not Showing Up
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/purchased-packs-not-showing
Troubleshoot why your purchased test packs or subscription credits are not appearing in your AutoProctor account, with step-by-step solutions.
If you purchased a subscription or test pack top-up but your account balance has not updated, there are a few common reasons. Follow the troubleshooting steps below, listed in order of likelihood.
## 1. You Are Logged In to a Different Account
This is **the most common reason**. If you purchased credits using one email address but are logged in with a different one, the credits do not appear.
Visit the **Your Account** page. Your logged-in email address is displayed there.
AutoProctor sends a receipt and invoice for every purchase. Search your inbox to identify which email address received the confirmation.
If the confirmation went to a different email address, log out and sign in with that account to see your credits.
If you are part of a [Team](/what-is-a-team), the Team Admin receives the confirmation emails, even if you made the payment from your own account.
## 2. Your Subscription Has Expired
AutoProctor is a subscription-based product. When your subscription is due for renewal, your card is charged automatically. If the charge fails after multiple attempts, your subscription is cancelled and **your credit balance resets to 0**.
Go to the **Billing** section in your sidebar. Your subscription status is displayed in the **Plan Details** area.
Confirm that the credit card on file is valid and has sufficient funds. You can update it via [Editing Billing Information](/edit-billing-information).
If your subscription has expired, purchase a new subscription from the [Pricing Page](https://www.autoproctor.co/pricing/) to restore access.
## 3. Your Team Association Changed
On AutoProctor, you can join and leave a [Team](/what-is-a-team). If you are part of a team, you share the subscription and credit balance with other team members.
If you have left a team (or been removed), you no longer see the team's credit balance. Check your team status by visiting the **Team** section in your sidebar.
Leaving a team means you lose access to the team's shared credits. Make sure this is intentional before you leave.
## 4. Error at AutoProctor's End
If none of the above apply, the issue may be on our side. Follow these steps to report it:
Locate the purchase confirmation email with the transaction details.
Capture a screenshot of your **Your Account** page showing the current balance.
Forward the purchase email and screenshot to **[hello@autoproctor.co](mailto:hello@autoproctor.co)**. Our team will investigate and resolve the issue.

# Question Banks
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/question-banks
Create large pools of questions and serve randomized subsets to candidates using Question Banks.
Question Banks let you create large pools of questions and serve a random subset to each candidate. Every candidate receives a different combination of questions, reducing the chance of cheating while maintaining a consistent assessment structure.
Question Banks are an **Elite** plan feature. You need an Elite subscription to create and use Question Banks and Question Bank Quizzes. See [Elite Features](/elite-plan-features) for details.
## What is a Question Bank?
A Question Bank (QB) is a collection of questions organized by subject or topic. Each question in the bank can have a different point value and difficulty level. When candidates take a test, they receive a randomly selected subset from the bank rather than the full set of questions.
### Example: Physics and Chemistry Tests
Imagine you have two Question Banks:
* **Physics Question Bank** -- 100 questions across various difficulty levels
* **Chemistry Question Bank** -- 100 questions across various difficulty levels
You can create different quizzes that draw from these banks with different weightings:
| Quiz | Physics Questions | Chemistry Questions | Total |
| -------------------- | ---------------------------- | ---------------------------- | ------------ |
| Physics Major Quiz | 40 questions (2 points each) | 10 questions (1 point each) | 50 questions |
| Chemistry Major Quiz | 10 questions (1 point each) | 40 questions (2 points each) | 50 questions |
Each candidate receives a different random subset of questions from the respective banks, but the overall structure (number of questions, points, difficulty distribution) stays consistent across all candidates.
## Question Bank Quizzes (QBQ)
Candidates cannot attempt a Question Bank directly. You must create a Question Bank Quiz and add it to an AutoProctor test for candidates to take.
A Question Bank Quiz specifies:
* Which Question Banks to draw questions from
* How many questions to include from each bank
* The difficulty levels to include
* The point values for each difficulty level
You can combine multiple Question Banks in a single QBQ, or use one bank to supply questions at varying difficulty levels.
## How to Create a Question Bank Quiz
Navigate to the Question Banks section in AutoProctor and create a new Question Bank. Add your questions, assigning point values and difficulty levels to each.
Create a new Question Bank Quiz (QBQ). Select which Question Banks to draw from, how many questions to include, and which difficulty levels to use.
Add the QBQ to an AutoProctor test. Share the test link with your candidates.

# Question Display Mode
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/question-display-mode
Control how questions are displayed to candidates -- all at once, one-by-one with navigation, or one-by-one without navigation.
The Question Display Mode setting controls how questions appear to your test takers. You can choose between three display options, each with different implications for navigation, timing, and test security.
Question Display Mode is a **Premium** feature. See [Payments and Credits](/payments-and-credits) for plan details.
## Display Modes
### 1. All-at-once (Google Forms style)
Candidates see all the questions at the same time, one below the other, like a Google Form. The timer applies to the **entire test**. Candidates can scroll freely between questions and answer them in any order.
### 2. One-by-one with navigation (Typeform style)
Candidates see one question at a time and can navigate back and forth between questions. The timer applies to the **entire test**, not to individual questions. Candidates can revisit and change their answers at any point before submitting.
### 3. One-by-one without navigation
Candidates see one question at a time. Once they submit a question (by attempting or skipping it), they **cannot go back to it**. The timer is set **per question**, not for the entire test.
## Key Differences
| Feature | All-at-once | One-by-one with nav | One-by-one without nav |
| --------------------------------- | :---------: | :-----------------: | :--------------------: |
| Timer scope | Entire test | Entire test | Per question |
| Can go back to previous questions | Yes | Yes | No |
| Custom instructions | Yes | No | No |
## When to Use One-by-one Without Navigation
The no-navigation option is especially useful for test security. Candidates can view only one question at a time for a limited duration, which significantly reduces the opportunity to cheat. Each question has its own timer, so candidates cannot spend extra time on difficult questions by rushing through easier ones.
## How Timer Settings Change
When you use **one-by-one without navigation**, certain test-level timer settings become unavailable. The timer behavior shifts to the question level:
* **Duration**: You set the duration per question, not for the entire test
* **Auto-Submit**: Each question auto-submits when its individual timer expires
* **Must Submit By**: This test-level setting is replaced by **Cannot Start After** at the test level
For more information on timer configuration, see [Timer Settings](/timer-settings).
## How to Set the Display Mode
Open the Socratease Quiz you want to configure from your [AutoProctor dashboard](https://www.autoproctor.co/test-admin/home/).
Click the **Settings** icon (gear) in the quiz editor toolbar.
Choose your preferred display mode from the **Question Display Mode** dropdown. The default is "All-at-once."

# Quiz Issues on IFrame Tests
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/quiz-issues-on-iframe-tests
Why issues inside the quiz window come from your quiz provider, not AutoProctor, and what you can do about them.
Issues inside the quiz frame come from your quiz provider, not AutoProctor. AutoProctor cannot read, modify, or fix anything inside the quiz.
## How Embedding Works
When you create an **IFrame test** on AutoProctor, you provide a URL to your quiz (hosted on JotForm, Typeform, ProProfs, or any other platform). AutoProctor loads that URL inside an **iframe**, a browser window within a window.
Everything inside the iframe comes directly from the quiz provider. AutoProctor wraps the proctoring layer around it but has no access to the quiz content itself.
You know how a blog post can embed a YouTube video? The blog controls the page layout, but the video itself comes from YouTube. If the video is unavailable, the blog cannot fix it. IFrame tests work the same way: AutoProctor is the blog, and your quiz provider is YouTube.
Think of it like a picture frame. The frame (AutoProctor) holds the picture, but it does not control what is printed on it.
## Common Issues That Come from the Provider
If participants report problems **inside the quiz area**, the issue is almost certainly with the quiz provider.
| Issue | What's Happening |
| ---------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **"Form not found" or blank quiz** | The quiz URL changed, the form was deleted, or the provider is experiencing downtime. Check the form on the provider's website directly. |
| **Questions not loading or loading slowly** | The provider is slow or the form is too large. Test the quiz URL in a normal browser tab outside AutoProctor. |
| **Submission errors** | The provider rejected the response, often due to required fields, validation rules, or server timeouts. This is configured in the provider's form settings. |
| **"Form closed" or "No longer accepting responses"** | The form creator (or the provider) closed the form. Reopen it in your provider's dashboard. |
| **CAPTCHA or login prompts** | Some providers require authentication or bot verification. These appear inside the iframe and are controlled by the provider. |
Open the quiz URL directly in a new browser tab (without AutoProctor). If the same problem appears there, it is a provider issue, not an AutoProctor issue.
## What AutoProctor Can and Cannot Help With
| AutoProctor handles | The quiz provider handles |
| --------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------- |
| Proctoring (camera, screen, audio monitoring) | Quiz content (questions, answers, scoring) |
| Test links and access settings | Form availability, quotas, and response limits |
| Violation detection and evidence | Submission processing and response storage |
| Candidate identity and login | CAPTCHA, form authentication, and validation |
| Results and proctoring reports | Quiz-specific error messages |
If you contact us about an issue inside the quiz frame, we will not be able to investigate it because we do not have access to the provider's systems. Contact the quiz provider directly.
## What You Can Do
Open your quiz URL in a regular browser tab. If the error appears there too, the problem is with the provider.
Look for response limits, form status, expiry dates, or plan restrictions on your quiz provider's website.
Reach out to the provider's support team with the error message. They control the form and can investigate.
If the problem is with proctoring, the test link, camera access, or anything outside the quiz frame, [contact us](/contact-us) and we will help.
## How to Avoid This Problem with AutoProctor's Own Quizzes
With **IFrame tests**, AutoProctor and the quiz provider are two separate systems. When something breaks inside the quiz, we cannot help because we do not control it.
**[Socratease](/why-socratease)** is AutoProctor's built-in quiz tool. The quiz and the proctoring are part of the same platform, so there is no third-party boundary. If something goes wrong, we can investigate and fix it directly.

# Restrict Test Access by Email Address
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/restrict-access-by-email
Limit who can take your test by restricting access to specific email domains or individual email addresses using Login Restrictions.
Login Restrictions let you control exactly who can take your test by filtering candidates based on their email address. This prevents unauthorized access even if someone shares or discovers your test link.
## How to Set Up Email Restrictions
Navigate to the test on your [AutoProctor dashboard](https://www.autoproctor.co/test-admin/home/) and click the **Settings** button.
Scroll down to the **Advanced Settings** section and locate the **Login Restrictions** fields.
Enter the email domains or specific email addresses you want to allow. You can combine both types of restrictions in a single field (see examples below).
Click **Create** or **Update** to apply the restrictions.
## Domain-Based Restrictions
You can restrict access to candidates whose email addresses end with specific domains. For example, entering `@abc.com` and `@xyz.com` allows only candidates with those email domains to take the test.
## Specific Email Restrictions
You can also permit individual email addresses alongside domain restrictions. This is useful when most candidates share a domain but a few external participants need access.
For example, you can allow all users whose email ends with `@abc.com` plus specific individual email addresses like `guest@gmail.com`.
Email restrictions work in conjunction with the candidate's [login method](/candidate-login-methods). The candidate must sign in with an email address that matches one of the allowed domains or addresses you specified.

# Restrict Test Access to Specific Candidates
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/restrict-access-to-candidates
Limit test participation to specific candidates on AutoProctor using link distribution, email restrictions, unique invitation links, or platform access controls.
By default, anyone with your test link can take the test. AutoProctor gives you several methods to lock down access so only the candidates you choose can participate.
## Method 1: Selective Link Distribution
The simplest approach is to share the test link only with the candidates who should take the test.
Determine which candidates should have access to the test.
Send the test link only to those candidates via email, your learning management system, or another private channel. Avoid posting the link publicly.
This method relies on candidates not sharing the link with others. If you need stronger access control, use one of the methods below.
## Method 2: Email-Based Restrictions
Use AutoProctor's built-in **Login Restrictions** to allow only specific email domains or individual email addresses. You configure this in the Advanced Settings section of your test.
Navigate to your test settings and scroll to the **Advanced Settings** section.
Add the email domains (e.g., `@yourschool.edu`) or specific email addresses you want to allow.
Click **Create** or **Update** to apply the restrictions.
See [Restrict Test Access by Email Address](/restrict-access-by-email) for full setup instructions and examples.
## Method 3: Unique Invitation Links
Generate unique per-candidate URLs tied to specific email addresses. Each candidate receives their own link with email verification, so only the intended recipient can use it.
Open your test settings and enable the **Unique URL** option.
Upload candidate email addresses via a CSV file (up to 1,000 at once).
AutoProctor outputs a unique link for each email address as comma-separated pairs.
Paste the output into a spreadsheet application and split on the comma separator to organize email addresses and links into separate columns.
Send each candidate their unique link individually using the spreadsheet you created.
Unique invitation links are available only on the **Elite Plan** and work with Socratease Quizzes and IFrame Tests. See [Payments and Credits](/payments-and-credits) for plan details.
See [Inviting Candidates via Email](/invite-candidates-via-email) for the complete setup process.
## Method 4: Google Forms Access Restrictions
If you use Google Forms, you can restrict access at the Google Forms level instead of (or in addition to) AutoProctor restrictions. Candidates can still open the AutoProctor link, but they cannot proceed if Google Forms blocks their access.
In Google Forms, click the **Settings** gear icon.
Enable the option to restrict responses to users in your organization. This limits access to candidates with email addresses under your Google Workspace domain.
For more details, refer to [Google's guide on restricting form access](https://www.bettercloud.com/monitor/the-academy/restrict-access-to-google-forms/).
## Comparison of Access Control Methods
| Method | Strength | Works With | Plan Required |
| --------------------------- | ---------------------------------- | -------------------------------- | ------------- |
| Selective link distribution | Low -- relies on trust | All test types | Any |
| Email-based restrictions | Medium -- blocks wrong domains | All test types | Any |
| Unique invitation links | High -- per-candidate verification | Socratease Quizzes, IFrame Tests | Elite |
| Google Forms restrictions | Medium -- organization-level | Google Forms only | Any |

# Resuming Test Attempts
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/resume-exam-attempts
Understand how AutoProctor handles test resumption when candidates disconnect, close the browser, or leave a test mid-attempt.
**Resuming** means any way the candidate returns to the test: clicking the test link again, reloading the page in the browser, or coming back after a while and letting the browser auto-reload.
When a candidate leaves a test mid-attempt — whether due to a browser crash, network issue, or accidental closure — AutoProctor determines whether to resume the previous attempt or create a new one. The behavior depends on your test type and settings.
## Resume Behavior by Test Type
| Test Type | Resume Behavior | Details |
| --------------- | --------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Socratease Quiz | Always resumes | Loads previous responses automatically; candidates must complete the existing attempt before starting a new one |
| Microsoft Forms | Never resumes | Creates a new attempt each time due to platform limitations |
| Google Forms | Configurable | Controlled by the **Enable Auto Resume** toggle and Google Forms autosave setting |
| IFrame Tests | Configurable | Controlled by the **Enable Auto Resume** toggle |
## Configuring the Resume Feature
For Google Forms and IFrame tests, you control resume behavior through the **Enable Auto Resume** toggle in your test settings.
Navigate to your test on the [AutoProctor dashboard](https://www.autoproctor.co/test-admin/home/) and click **Settings**.
Find and enable or disable the **Enable Auto Resume** option.
For Google Forms, you must also keep the **Save Draft** (autosave) setting enabled in Google Forms itself for resume to work properly. See [Resuming Google Forms Tests](/resume-google-forms-exam) for detailed configuration.
## How Resumption Works
When a candidate returns to the test after disconnecting:
* **If resume is enabled**: AutoProctor reopens the previous attempt. For **Socratease** quizzes, prior responses are restored automatically. For **IFrame** and **Google Forms** tests, whether responses are preserved depends on the external quiz platform's own save/autosave behavior.
* **If resume is disabled**: AutoProctor creates a new, blank attempt. The incomplete attempt still appears in your results.
## How Timers Interact with Resumption
If you have [timer settings](/timer-settings) configured, they affect how resumption works.
### Test Duration
The remaining time from the original attempt carries over. For example, if a candidate starts a 60-minute test at 10:00 AM and disconnects at 10:30 AM, resuming at 10:50 AM gives them only 10 minutes remaining. Once the full duration expires (11:00 AM), the test can no longer be resumed.
### Cannot Start Before / Cannot Start After
These constraints apply to the original start time, not the reconnection time. A candidate who started before the deadline can still resume after it, as long as the test duration has not expired.
### Must Submit By
This deadline is strictly enforced at reconnection time. If the **Must Submit By** deadline has passed before the candidate tries to resume, the test does not load -- even if the candidate originally started before the deadline.
The **Must Submit By** deadline overrides all other timer settings at resumption time. If this deadline has passed, the candidate cannot resume regardless of remaining test duration.

# Resuming Google Forms Tests
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/resume-google-forms-exam
Configure whether candidates can resume Google Forms tests after closing them mid-attempt by managing autosave and auto-resume settings.
Google Forms tests require two settings to work together for correct resume behavior: the **autosave** setting in Google Forms and the **auto-resume** setting in AutoProctor. Mismatching these settings causes unexpected behavior for candidates.
Two settings control Google Forms test resumption:
1. **Disable Autosave** in Google Forms -- Controls whether draft responses are saved as the candidate fills out the form.
2. **Enable Auto-resume** in AutoProctor -- Controls whether AutoProctor loads the previous attempt when a candidate returns to the test link.
You must configure both settings together for the intended behavior.
## To Allow Test Resumption
If you want candidates to pick up where they left off after closing the test:
Make sure the **Disable Autosave** feature is **OFF** in your Google Forms test settings. This is the default setting, so you only need to verify it has not been changed.
Turn on the **Enable Auto-resume** setting in your AutoProctor test settings.
## To Prevent Test Resumption
If you want each visit to the test link to create a new, blank attempt:
Turn **ON** the **Disable Autosave** feature in your Google Forms test settings. This prevents Google Forms from saving draft responses.
Turn **OFF** the **Enable Auto-resume** option in your AutoProctor test settings.
## Settings Combination Reference
| Disable Autosave (Google Forms) | Enable Auto-resume (AutoProctor) | Result |
| ------------------------------- | -------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| OFF (default) | ON (default) | Candidates resume where they left off |
| ON | OFF | Each visit starts a fresh, blank attempt |
| OFF | OFF | New attempt loads, but Google Forms may show previously saved answers -- confusing for candidates |
| ON | ON | AutoProctor tries to resume, but Google Forms has no saved draft -- candidate sees a blank form with reduced time |
If the two settings are mismatched (for example, autosave is enabled but auto-resume is disabled), candidates may experience unexpected behavior such as seeing a partially filled form on a new attempt or losing their saved progress. Always configure both settings to match.
## Default Settings
Google Forms has autosave enabled by default, and AutoProctor's corresponding default setting allows resuming unsubmitted test attempts. This means tests resume by default unless you explicitly change either setting.

# Share Test Results
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/share-exam-results
Grant other administrators or colleagues access to test results on AutoProctor, including methods for all supported quiz platforms.
You may need to share test results with other administrators, co-instructors, or colleagues who did not create the original test. The method depends on which quiz platform you use.
## For Google Forms
When you share a Google Form with another user, they can gain access to the same AutoProctor test and its results.
Share the Google Form link with the users who need access. Make sure they have **Editor** permissions on the form itself.
Have the other users open the **Timer + Proctor** add-on from within the shared Google Form.
Once they open the add-on, the other users become associated with the same test. They see the same test link and can view results on their AutoProctor dashboard.
The other users must open the Timer + Proctor add-on at least once from within the shared Google Form. Simply sharing the Google Form link is not enough -- they must launch the add-on to be associated with the test.
## For Socratease Quizzes
Use the **Collaborators** feature to grant other users access to your test and its results.
Navigate to the test on your [AutoProctor dashboard](https://www.autoproctor.co/test-admin/home/) and open its settings.
Add the email addresses of users you want to grant access to. See [Adding Collaborators](/add-collaborators) for detailed instructions.
Collaborators can view results, proctoring reports, and manage the test depending on the permissions you assign.
## For All Test Types
You can also share results by exporting them:
| Method | Description |
| ----------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Excel export** | Download results and share the file directly. See [Export to Excel](/export-results-to-excel) |
| **Google Sheets** | Set up automatic export to a shared Google Sheet. See [Google Sheets Integration](/write-results-to-google-sheets) |

# Showing Results to Candidates
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/show-results-to-candidates
Control when and how candidates see their quiz scores and results in Socratease.
You can control if and when candidates see their quiz scores and the correct answers. This gives you full flexibility -- from instant feedback to withholding results entirely.
## Result Release Options
Socratease provides four ways to release scores and results to candidates:
### 1. Immediately, on Submission
Candidates see their score immediately after they submit the quiz. For auto-evaluated questions (such as MCQ, MCA, and Autograded Text), they can also see the correct answers and whether they got each question right.
### 2. When Individual Score is Released
You click a release button within each candidate's results to share the score with that specific candidate. This lets you review and release results one by one, at your own pace.
### 3. When All Scores are Released
You release scores for all candidates of the test at once. This is useful when you want everyone to see their results at the same time, such as after grading is complete.
### 4. They Never See the Results
Once candidates submit the quiz, they see a confirmation that they can close the tab. The results are never revealed to them.
## Hiding Questions and Answers from the Candidate Report
When results are visible to candidates (any option other than "never"), you can optionally choose to **hide the specific questions and answers** while still displaying the score. Candidates see how they performed overall but cannot review individual questions or correct answers.
This option is unavailable when you select "They never see the results," since the candidate report is not shown at all in that case.
## Candidate Access
Candidates can view their attempted quizzes at [autoproctor.co/account/socratease-history/](https://www.autoproctor.co/account/socratease-history/). What they see depends on the score release status you have configured.
## How to Set the Release Method
Open the quiz that contains your questions and click the **Settings** icon (gear).
Choose your preferred release method from the **Result Visibility** dropdown. The setting updates immediately.

# Socratease Question Types
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/socratease-question-types
Explore the 13 question types available in Socratease quizzes, from multiple choice to voice input and auto-graded text.
Socratease offers 13 distinct question formats to assess candidates across different skill areas. These range from traditional multiple-choice to advanced formats like voice recording, drag-and-drop matching, and auto-graded text responses.
Not all question types are available on every plan. See [Question Type Availability](/question-type-availability) for details on which types are included in your plan.
## Available on All Plans
### 1. MCQ (Multiple Choice Question)
A question with only one correct answer. Candidates select a single option from the available choices.
### 2. MCA (Multiple Correct Answers)
A question with multiple correct answers. Candidates can select more than one option using checkboxes.
### 3. Short Text
An essay-type question where you can set minimum and maximum character length for the response. Use this for open-ended answers that require more than a single line.
### 4. Single-line Input
A compact text input field for shorter answers. You can set validations to accept only specific formats like emails, numbers, or dates.
## Available on Premium and Elite Plans
The following question types require a **Premium** or **Elite** plan. See [Question Type Availability](/question-type-availability) for the full breakdown.
### 5. Coding Editor
Candidates write code with syntax highlighting and autocomplete. You choose the programming language. The code cannot be executed -- this question type evaluates the candidate's ability to write code, not to run it.
### 6. Cloze (Fill-in-the-Blanks)
A fill-in-the-blank format where candidates see the available options (including wrong ones) and drag and drop them into the correct blanks within the text.
### 7. Match
A matching exercise where candidates drag and drop items to align related pairs across two columns.
### 8. Categorize
Candidates classify a set of items into the correct buckets or categories by dragging and dropping them.
### 9. Comprehension
A nested question format where you write a passage of text and ask multiple questions based on that passage. All sub-questions appear alongside the comprehension text.
### 10. Document
Upload a PDF document and ask multiple questions based on its content. Candidates view the document alongside the questions.
## Available on Elite Plan Only
The following question types are exclusive to the **Elite** plan. See [Elite Features](/elite-plan-features) for more about Elite plan capabilities.
### 11. Answer Any
You create a set of questions (for example, 5) and let candidates choose a subset to answer (for example, any 3 out of the 5). This gives candidates flexibility while maintaining assessment rigor.
### 12. Voice Input
You type a piece of text and candidates record themselves speaking that text. This is useful for language assessments, pronunciation evaluations, and oral communication testing.
### 13. Autograded Text
You type the question text and the expected answer. The candidate's response is automatically marked as correct if it matches the expected answer exactly. This enables instant grading without manual review.

# Socratease Quiz Settings
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/socratease-quiz-settings
Configure your Socratease quiz with settings for display mode, result visibility, randomization, and more.
Socratease has its own set of configurable settings, distinct from the general Timer and Proctor settings on AutoProctor. These settings control how the quiz behaves for your candidates -- from how questions appear to whether candidates can copy and paste.
## Available Settings
### 1. Question Display Mode (Premium)
Control how questions appear to candidates: all at once (Google Forms style), one-by-one with navigation (Typeform style), or one-by-one without navigation. This setting also affects how timers work.
For more details, see [Question Display Mode](/question-display-mode).
### 2. Result Visibility
Control when candidates see their scores and results:
* **Immediately** after submission
* **When you release individual scores** (one candidate at a time)
* **When you release all scores** (everyone at once)
* **Never** -- results are withheld entirely
For more details, see [Showing Results to Candidates](/show-results-to-candidates).
### 3. Question Randomization
Randomize the order of questions for each candidate. What Candidate 1 sees as Question 1 may be Question 10 for Candidate 2. This reduces the opportunity for candidates to share answers during a test.
This option is only available when you use the [All-at-once (Google Forms style)](/question-display-mode) mode.
### 4. Choice Shuffling
For MCQ and MCA type questions, you can randomize the order of answer options across candidates. Even if two candidates see the same question, the choices appear in a different order.
### 5. Copy and Paste Restriction
When you enable this setting, candidates cannot copy question text from the quiz or paste text from a different tab or application into the quiz. This reduces reliance on external tools and AI assistants.
### 6. Tab-Switch Auto-Submit
Set the maximum number of tab switches permitted during the test. If a candidate exceeds this limit, their test is automatically submitted. This discourages candidates from switching to other tabs to look up answers.
When a test auto-submits due to tab-switch limits, the candidate cannot resume the test. Make sure to communicate the tab-switch policy to your candidates beforehand.
### 7. Custom Instructions
Add general test guidance that displays to candidates before they start the quiz. Use this to communicate important rules, instructions, or expectations.
Custom instructions are available only when you use the **all-at-once** question display mode.
### 8. LaTeX Support
If you want to include mathematical equations, write them using LaTeX syntax and they render automatically as formatted equations. Enable this setting to activate LaTeX rendering in your quiz.
For more details, see [Using LaTeX for Math Equations](/latex-math-equations).
## How to Access Quiz Settings
Open the Socratease Quiz you want to configure from your [AutoProctor dashboard](https://www.autoproctor.co/test-admin/home/).
Click the **Settings** icon (gear) in the quiz editor toolbar.
Modify any of the eight settings listed above. Changes save automatically.

AutoProctor monitors your camera, audio, and screen activity during proctored tests using AI-powered analysis. Follow these instructions carefully before starting your test to ensure everything runs smoothly and your answers are saved correctly.
For non-Socratease quizzes, you must click the submit buttons in the correct order. If you skip the purple button, **all your answers will be lost** and cannot be recovered.
## Try the Demo Test First
AutoProctor requires modern browser technologies to function. Before your actual test, take the demo to confirm your device works.
Visit [the AutoProctor demo test](https://www.autoproctor.co/tests/start-test/GFICZZZA/) on the device and browser you plan to use for your actual test.
Follow the on-screen prompts to verify that your camera, microphone, and browser are compatible with AutoProctor.
If the demo loads successfully, your assigned test will work too. If the demo loads but your assigned test does not, sign out of all your Google accounts at [accounts.google.com/Logout](https://accounts.google.com/Logout) and try again.
If one test loads on your device, all other tests will load too. The demo test is the best way to verify compatibility before your actual test.
## Submit Buttons
For non-Socratease quizzes (Google Forms, Microsoft Forms, etc.), there are **two submit buttons** that you must click in the correct order:
1. **Purple Submit Button** (bottom) -- click this **first** to save your answers to the quiz provider
2. **Green Submit Button** (top) -- click this **second** to submit the proctored session to AutoProctor
If you do not click the **purple button first**, all the answers you entered will be lost. Always click the purple submit button before clicking the green submit button.
Socratease quizzes have only **one submit button**, so there is no risk of answer loss. See [Submit Button Differences](/how-to-submit-quiz) for details.
## Google Account Setup
If you are taking a Google Forms test, follow these steps before opening the test link:
Visit [accounts.google.com/Logout](https://accounts.google.com/Logout) to sign out of every Google account on your device.
Sign back in with the Google account your test administrator specified. This is the account that has permission to access the test form.
Navigate to the test link provided by your administrator.
## Browser and Device Requirements

# Test is Slow and Laggy
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/test-slow-and-laggy
Troubleshoot slow performance during proctored tests. AutoProctor's real-time video capture and AI analysis require more processing power than typical web applications.
If your test loads but runs slowly or feels laggy, your device may not have enough processing power to handle AutoProctor's real-time proctoring features alongside the test itself. Your device may run everyday apps like YouTube and social media perfectly, but AutoProctor captures video and runs AI algorithms simultaneously, which demands significantly more resources.
**Minimum device requirements for smooth performance:**
| Requirement | Specification |
| ----------- | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| Processor | Dual-core CPU (Intel i3 / AMD equivalent or better) |
| RAM | 4 GB minimum (8 GB recommended) |
| Browser | Latest version of Chrome, Edge, or Firefox |
| Internet | Stable connection with at least 2 Mbps upload speed |
| Camera | Built-in or external webcam supporting at least 720p |
## How to Fix It
Close all unnecessary applications and browser tabs to free up processing power and memory for AutoProctor.
Restart your device immediately before taking the test. This clears temporary files and frees up system resources.
Browser extensions consume memory and CPU. Disable extensions you do not need during the test.
A wired Ethernet connection is more stable and faster than Wi-Fi, which can help reduce lag during the test.
If you still experience performance issues after following these steps, your device may not have sufficient hardware to run AutoProctor's video capture and AI-based proctoring simultaneously. You will need to use a more powerful device.

# Test Stuck at Loading Screen
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/test-stuck-at-loading-screen
Fix tests that are stuck on the loading screen. Learn why device or browser compatibility issues cause loading failures and how to resolve them.
AutoProctor uses advanced browser technologies for real-time proctoring, which require a modern browser and adequate device hardware. If your test is stuck at the loading screen, your setup likely does not meet these requirements.
## Why Your Test Is Stuck at Loading
AutoProctor runs AI-powered video capture and analysis directly in your browser. This demands significantly more processing power than typical web applications. The loading screen appears when your browser or device cannot initialize these proctoring components.
Common causes include:
* **Outdated browser** -- older browser versions lack the APIs AutoProctor needs
* **Insufficient hardware** -- low-end or older devices may not support real-time video processing
* **Browser extensions** -- certain extensions (especially ad blockers and privacy tools) can block AutoProctor's scripts from loading
## How to Fix It
Visit the [AutoProctor demo test](https://www.autoproctor.co/tests/bj0yv14Ufu/?timer=True\&proctor=True) to verify that your device and browser are compatible. If the demo also fails to load, your device does not support AutoProctor.
Ensure you are running the latest version of **Google Chrome** (version 83+) on Windows, Android, or Mac, or **Safari** (version 13+) on iPhone or iPad. Update your browser if it is not current.
Temporarily disable browser extensions, especially ad blockers and privacy tools, that may interfere with AutoProctor's scripts.
Close all unnecessary applications and browser tabs to free up processing power and memory for AutoProctor.
If the test still does not load after following the steps above, your device does not meet the minimum hardware requirements. You will need to switch to a more powerful device. Your device may run everyday apps like YouTube and social media perfectly, but AutoProctor's AI processing demands significantly more resources.
If the demo test also fails to load, your device does not support AutoProctor. You will need to use a different device with better hardware specifications. There is nothing AutoProctor can do from its end to resolve hardware limitations.
If one test loads on your device, all other tests will load too. The demo test is the best way to verify compatibility.

# Timer Settings
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/timer-settings
Configure test duration, auto-submit behavior, time windows, and buffer time for your AutoProctor tests.
Timer Settings let you control when candidates can start a test, how long they have to complete it, and what happens when time runs out. You access these settings from the **Settings** button on your dashboard.
The times you set are in your local timezone. AutoProctor handles all timezone conversions automatically — if your candidates are in a different timezone, they will see the correct local time on their end.
## How to Configure Timer Settings
On the Test Settings page, check the **Enable Timer** checkbox. This activates all time-related settings for your test. Unchecking this box disables all time-related checks.
Enter the maximum time a candidate has to complete the test. The countdown starts when the test loads and the candidate sees the questions.
Toggle **Auto-submit Test** to automatically submit the test when the duration ends. If disabled, candidates get unlimited time to submit after the timer runs out.
For non-Socratease quizzes, auto-submit only submits the proctoring session — not the quiz answers. If a candidate hasn't manually submitted their answers, **all responses will be lost**. For Socratease quizzes, both answers and proctoring data are submitted automatically.
Use **Can't Start Before** and **Can't Start After** to define when candidates can begin the test:
* **Can't Start Before** — the earliest date and time a candidate can start
* **Can't Start After** — the latest date and time a candidate can start
If you set a date without a time, midnight is used as the default.
**Must Submit By** sets a hard deadline for submission. If a candidate starts the test close to this deadline, their available time is reduced accordingly.
For example, if the test duration is 30 minutes and the Must Submit By time is 12:30 PM, a candidate starting at 12:15 PM gets only 15 minutes. This uses the same date as **Can't Start After**.
**Buffer Time** is a grace period after the Can't Start After time that allows candidates to complete the demo test and set up their device. AutoProctor adds a default 5-minute buffer when start/end times are set.
Buffer time does not apply to the Must Submit By deadline.
## Timer Settings Reference
| Setting | Description | Default |
| ---------------------- | ---------------------------------------------- | -------------------------- |
| **Duration** | Maximum time for a test attempt | No limit |
| **Auto-submit Test** | Submit automatically when time runs out | Off |
| **Can't Start Before** | Earliest start date and time | No restriction |
| **Can't Start After** | Latest start date and time | No restriction |
| **Must Submit By** | Hard submission deadline | Not set |
| **Buffer Time** | Grace period for setup after Can't Start After | 5 min (when times are set) |

# Track Your Test Pack Credit Usage
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/track-credit-usage
Monitor how your credits are being consumed across tests and team members using the Usage dashboard in your AutoProctor account.
AutoProctor provides a dedicated Usage dashboard that shows exactly how your credits are being consumed. You can track usage per test and, if you are part of a team, per team member.
## How Credits Work
Credits are added to your account when you create a subscription, when it renews, or when you purchase Test Pack top-ups. Each time a candidate starts a test, one credit is deducted. The Usage page gives you a clear view of where those credits go.
## Viewing Your Credit Usage
Click on the **Usage** tab in your left sidebar.
You see a table showing the number of credits used per test. Click on any test title to open the results for all attempts of that test.
If a test has been shared with multiple test administrators, only the **primary admin (the test creator)** sees it listed on their Usage page.
## Team Usage
If you are part of a [Team](/what-is-a-team), the Usage page shows your personal test data by default. To view credit consumption across the entire team:
Click the **Team Usage** button at the top right of the Usage page.
The team usage view displays a table with **all team members and the total number of credits each member has used**. Click on any member to drill down into their individual test-level usage.
Only Team Admins and the individual member themselves can view detailed per-test usage. Regular team members can see the summary view but not other members' individual breakdowns.

# Using Tags
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/using-tags
Organize and filter quiz questions and results using tags in Socratease Quizzes.
Tags are metadata labels you add to quiz questions to organize, classify, and filter your test results. They help you break down candidate performance by subject, skill, difficulty, or any other category you define.
Tags are **visible to candidates** during the test. Keep tag names professional and informative (e.g., `math`, `Python`, `section-A`).
## What Can You Do with Tags?
Tags work across both **Quizzes** and **Question Banks**. Once you tag your questions, the quiz report gives you two powerful capabilities:
* **Filter** questions by specific tags to see only the results for those questions
* **Group** questions by tags for organized viewing and analysis
Example tags include:
* Subject categorization: `english`, `history`, `math`
* Skill identification: `Python`, `JavaScript`, `SQL`
* Difficulty designation: `easy`, `medium`, `hard`
## How to Use Tags
Create a new Socratease Quiz on AutoProctor, or open an existing one.
After adding a question, click the **three-dot menu** on the top right of the question. Enter the tag name in the text box that says "Add tag & Press Enter" and press **Enter** to add it. You can add multiple tags to a single question.
Save your quiz after adding all tags. Tags persist with the question and carry through to results.
After candidates submit the test, open the test results. Use the **"Group By"** dropdown and select **Tags** to view questions organized by their respective tags.
Use the **"Filter by Tag"** dropdown to select individual tags and display only the questions with those specific tags. This lets you analyze performance on specific topics or skills.

# View Unsubmitted Tests
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/view-unsubmitted-exams
Learn how to identify, view, and manage tests that candidates started but did not submit on AutoProctor.
An unsubmitted test occurs when a candidate starts a test but does not click the green **Submit** button at the top of the test window. The candidate may have viewed questions and entered answers, but their test was never formally submitted.
## Viewing Unsubmitted Tests on the Results Page
When you open the results page for a test, unsubmitted tests are included alongside submitted results by default. A yellow banner at the top indicates that the table includes unsubmitted test attempts.
To view only submitted results, click the **Hide unsubmitted** button in the yellow banner. The unsubmitted entries are removed from the table, and the button changes to **Show unsubmitted** so you can bring them back at any time.
## Proctoring Report for an Unsubmitted Test
When you click **View Report** for an unsubmitted test attempt, you see a page indicating that the test has not been marked as finished yet. Proctoring results are not available until the attempt is marked as finished.
To generate the proctoring report, click the **Mark as Finished** button. A confirmation message appears and the report loads automatically after a few seconds.
If you mark a test as finished and the candidate is still attempting the test, newer violations will be ignored.
## Quiz Answers for an Unsubmitted Test
When you click **View Answers** for an unsubmitted test, the individual results page shows all questions as **Not Attempted** with 0 points scored.

# What Does 'Went Offline' Mean?
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/what-does-went-offline-mean
Understand what the 'Went Offline' entry in the proctoring report means, how AutoProctor tracks internet connectivity, and what it implies for test integrity.
"Went offline for 120 seconds" means that the candidate lost internet connectivity for 120 seconds during the test. This entry appears in the proctoring report whenever AutoProctor detects a gap in connectivity.
## How AutoProctor Tracks Internet Connectivity
AutoProctor monitors connectivity through continuous server pings sent from the candidate's browser at regular intervals (approximately every 5 seconds). When pings are missing, the system infers that the candidate lost connectivity.
**Example:** If pings failed at 11:00:30, 11:00:35, and 11:00:40 but resumed at 11:00:45, the report would indicate an offline period of approximately 10 seconds, from 11:00:30 to 11:00:40.
## Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. All questions are loaded before the test begins, so candidates can continue answering questions without an active internet connection. Connectivity is only required when loading new questions (if presented sequentially) or when submitting the test.
All violation-detection code is downloaded before the test starts. This enables AutoProctor to continue monitoring for violations (such as tab switches and face detection) even when the candidate is disconnected from the internet.
No. An offline status only confirms that the candidate lost internet connectivity -- it does not indicate the reason. It could be an intentional disconnection or a genuine technical issue. Distinguishing between the two requires your judgment when reviewing the full report.

# What Gets Tracked During Proctoring
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/what-gets-tracked-during-proctoring
Learn about the data feeds, detection capabilities, and evidence recording available in AutoProctor's proctoring system.
AutoProctor monitors candidates in real time using on-device AI and captures evidence only when it detects a violation. This means you review flagged incidents rather than hours of footage.
[View sample proctoring results](https://www.autoproctor.co/sample-dashboard/) to explore a live report.
## Data Feeds
AutoProctor can access the following feeds on the candidate's device:
| Feed | What It Does |
| -------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| **Camera feed** | Monitors the candidate's face and surroundings |
| **Microphone feed** | Detects background noise and audio cues |
| **Screen share feed** | Captures screen activity during the test |
| **Auxiliary device camera feed** | Monitors via a paired secondary device (e.g., phone) |
Which feeds AutoProctor accesses depends entirely on how you configure each test. You enable or disable each feed in your [proctoring settings](/proctoring-settings).
## What AutoProctor Detects and Records
Unlike traditional proctoring platforms that record full video and audio sessions, AutoProctor detects violations and shows you evidence of only those violations -- so you do not spend hours reviewing each candidate's attempt.
| Detection Feature | What It Does |
| ------------------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Background audio detection** | Records noise and audio cues from the microphone feed |
| **Face detection** | Captures photos when no face or multiple faces appear on camera |
| **Tab/app switching** | Captures screenshots when candidates switch tabs or applications |
| **Random photos** | Takes photos at random intervals throughout the exam |
| **Multiple monitor detection** | Identifies when additional screens are connected to the device |
| **Pre-test face capture** | Takes a photo of the candidate's face before the test starts |
| **Full-screen enforcement** | Ensures the test runs in full-screen mode and flags exits |
| **Session action recording** | Logs mouse clicks and keyboard activity throughout the test |
| **Auxiliary device pairing** | Monitors via a paired phone to detect keyboard usage, ensuring candidates are not using ChatGPT or other tools to cheat |
All tracking features are configurable per test. Enable only what you need in your [proctoring settings](/proctoring-settings).
## How to Configure Tracking
Go to your [AutoProctor dashboard](https://www.autoproctor.co/test-admin/home/), select a test, and click **Settings**.
Click the **Proctoring Settings** tab to see all available tracking options.
Toggle each tracking feature on or off depending on your requirements. For example, you might enable camera monitoring and tab-switching detection but leave microphone monitoring off.
Click **Save** to apply your changes. These settings take effect immediately for all future test attempts.
Enabling more tracking features increases the processing load on the candidate's device. If your candidates use older hardware, consider enabling only the features you need most. See [Device Compatibility](/device-compatibility) for minimum requirements.

# What is a Team on AutoProctor?
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/what-is-a-team
Learn how to create and manage teams on AutoProctor to share billing, pool credits across users, and collaborate on tests with team members.
The Team feature lets multiple users share a single billing account and credit pool. This is ideal for organizations where several people need to create and manage proctored tests without purchasing separate subscriptions.
The Team feature is available only on the **Premium** and **Elite** plans.
## What is a Team?
A Team is a group of AutoProctor users (each with their own email address) linked to the same billing account. The primary benefits are:
* **Shared billing and credits** -- Instead of each user paying separately, all team members draw from a common credit pool. Any team member can purchase credits, and the credits are available to everyone on the team.
* **Cost savings** -- Pooling credits across your organization avoids duplicate purchases and lets you take advantage of bulk discounts.
* **Test collaboration** -- You can add team members as [collaborators](/add-collaborators) on your tests. Collaborators can view results, edit Socratease quiz questions, and more.
**Example:** If you are a school, instead of each test creator purchasing their own subscription, you can create a team. One purchase covers everyone, and all test creators share the same credit pool.
## Viewing Team Members
Once you create a team, click on the **Team** link in the sidebar to view the team management page. You see:
* The **team name**
* The **join link** -- any AutoProctor user who visits this link is added to the team
* A button to **leave the team**
* A list of **all team members**
* An **"Admin" tag** next to each team admin
## Team Admin Role
A Team Admin has elevated privileges beyond those of a regular team member:
| Capability | Team Admin | Regular Member |
| ---------------------------- | ---------- | -------------- |
| Rename the team | Yes | No |
| Promote members to admin | Yes | No |
| Demote other admins | Yes | No |
| Remove members from the team | Yes | No |
| Access billing information | Yes | No |
| View team-wide credit usage | Yes | No |
| Use shared credits for tests | Yes | Yes |
Regular team members cannot access billing information or manage other members. If you need billing access, ask an existing Team Admin to promote you.
## Creating and Joining a Team
### Creating a Team
Click on the **Team** link in your left sidebar. This option appears only if you are on a Premium or Elite plan.
Follow the prompts to set up your team. Once created, you receive a unique join link to share with others.
### Joining a Team
Ask a Team Admin for the team's join link.
Open the join link in your browser. You are added to the team immediately and gain access to the shared credit pool.
When you join a team, your individual subscription and credits are replaced by the team's shared subscription. If you leave the team later, you no longer have access to the team's credits.

# Trust Score
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/what-is-trust-score
Understand how AutoProctor's Trust Score works, how it is calculated, and what constitutes a good score.
AutoProctor assigns a Trust Score (0--100%) to every proctoring report. The score gives you a quick summary of how likely it is that a candidate maintained test integrity, so you can focus your review time on the attempts that need it most.
A lower Trust Score means AutoProctor detected more suspicious behavior during the test.
Always review the supporting evidence before drawing conclusions. **Do not** rely solely on the Trust Score -- review the actual violation photos, screenshots, and audio recordings to determine whether misconduct occurred.
## How the Trust Score Is Calculated
AutoProctor monitors candidates in real time across multiple channels (depending on your [proctoring settings](/proctoring-settings)):
* Camera feed
* Microphone feed
* Screen activity
The algorithm evaluates violations based on three factors:
| Factor | How It Affects the Score |
| --------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Type of violation** | Different violations carry different weights. Tab switching impacts the score more heavily than noise detection. |
| **Frequency of violations** | More incidents result in a lower score. |
| **Duration of violations** | Extended violations reduce the score more significantly than brief ones. |
## What Is a Good Trust Score?
As a general guideline, review the evidence for any candidate with a Trust Score **below 85%**. This threshold is meant for review, not as proof of misconduct.
Environmental factors can significantly impact scoring. For example, a candidate in a noisy room near traffic could receive a 0% Trust Score even when no actual cheating occurred. The microphone picks up ambient noise and the system cannot always distinguish between human speech and background sound. Always check the evidence before making a determination.
## How to Review a Trust Score
Go to your [AutoProctor dashboard](https://www.autoproctor.co/test-admin/home/), select a test, and click **Results**. You see a list of all candidates with their Trust Scores.
Sort by Trust Score and focus on candidates scoring **below 85%**. These attempts are the most likely to contain violations worth reviewing.
Click **View Report** on a candidate's row to see the detailed breakdown: flagged photos, screenshots, audio clips, and a timeline of detected violations.
Use the evidence to decide whether the violations indicate actual misconduct or are false positives caused by environmental factors.

# Where Can I See Proctoring Results?
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/where-to-find-proctoring-results
Access and review proctoring results for your tests on AutoProctor, including Trust Scores, violation details, and candidate-level reports.
After candidates complete a proctored test, AutoProctor compiles their monitoring data into a proctoring report. This guide walks you through accessing and interpreting those results.
Proctoring results are only generated when you enable proctoring in your [test settings](/proctoring-settings). If you configured your test with only a timer, no proctoring data is available.
## Viewing Proctoring Results
Navigate to your [AutoProctor dashboard](https://www.autoproctor.co/test-admin/home/) and click the **Results** button for the test you want to review.
The results page displays a table listing all submissions. Each row includes:
* Candidate name and email address
* Test start and finish time
* Trust Score (indicating proctoring integrity)
* Quiz score (for Socratease Quizzes only)
Click on a candidate's **Trust Score** to open their detailed proctoring summary. This page lists all violations detected during the test, including screenshots, timestamps, and evidence.
## What the Proctoring Summary Shows
The proctoring summary for each candidate includes:
| Data Point | Description |
| -------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Trust Score** | An overall integrity rating based on detected violations |
| **Violations list** | Each violation type with timestamp and evidence |
| **Screenshots** | Random photos captured during the test session |
| **Recordings** | Screen and webcam recordings (if enabled in [enhanced proctoring](/enhanced-proctoring)) |
| **Session timeline** | When the candidate started, paused, or submitted the test |

# Where Can I See My Quiz Results?
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/where-to-find-quiz-results
Understand the two types of results available on AutoProctor -- quiz results showing candidate performance and proctoring results tracking integrity.
AutoProctor provides two distinct types of results for every test: **quiz results** (how candidates performed) and **proctoring results** (whether candidates maintained integrity).
## Quiz Results
Quiz results show each candidate's answers and scores. Unless you use Socratease Quizzes, these results appear in your original quiz platform — not on the [AutoProctor dashboard](https://www.autoproctor.co/test-admin/home/).
Unless you use Socratease Quizzes, you cannot view quiz results directly on AutoProctor. Quiz results appear in the platform where you created the quiz.
| Quiz Platform | Where to Find Quiz Results |
| ---------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Google Forms** | Open your Google Form and click the **Responses** tab to see all submissions |
| **Microsoft Forms** | Check the **Responses** section in Microsoft Forms as you normally would |
| **IFrame Tests** | View results in the platform you embedded within the IFrame |
| **Socratease Quizzes** | View results directly on your [AutoProctor dashboard](https://www.autoproctor.co/test-admin/home/) under the test's **Results** section |
If you use Google Forms and cannot see responses, refer to the troubleshooting guide on [missing Google Forms responses](/google-forms-response-not-visible).
## Proctoring Results
As a candidate takes the test, AutoProctor monitors their testing environment and records evidence of possible cheating or malpractice. This data compiles into a proctoring report with a [Trust Score](/what-is-trust-score).
Proctoring results are only available when you enable proctoring in your [test settings](/proctoring-settings). Tests configured with only a timer do not generate proctoring reports.
To learn how to access proctoring results step by step, see [Where Can I See Proctoring Results?](/where-to-find-proctoring-results).

# Why Socratease Quiz?
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/why-socratease
Discover why Socratease is a better quizzing tool than Google Forms or Microsoft Forms for online assessments.
Socratease is AutoProctor's purpose-built quizzing platform designed specifically for candidate evaluation. Unlike survey tools like Google Forms and Microsoft Forms, Socratease provides dedicated assessment features that reduce cheating, prevent answer loss, and streamline the entire testing workflow.
## Key Advantages
### 1. Single Submit Button
Candidates click one [submit button](/how-to-submit-quiz) instead of two. This prevents answer loss from submission errors -- a common issue with other platforms where candidates may submit the form but forget to submit the proctored test (or vice versa).
### 2. Multiple Question Types
Beyond standard multiple-choice and essays, Socratease supports:
* Voice responses
* PDF-based questions
* Drag-and-drop matching exercises
* Cloze (fill-in-the-blank)
* Categorization
* Coding editor
* And more
See the full list of [question types](/socratease-question-types).
### 3. Auto-Submit Test Protection
Unlike competing tools, when a test auto-submits due to time expiry, **the answers are first submitted and then the test is closed**. This preserves candidate responses even if time expires, ensuring no work is lost.
### 4. Disable Copy-Paste
You can prevent candidates from copying questions or pasting answers, reducing their reliance on external sources like ChatGPT or other AI tools.
### 5. Single Dashboard
All functions -- test creation, answer review, and proctoring reports -- operate within AutoProctor's unified interface. You do not need to switch between multiple tools or platforms.
### 6. Formatting and Equations
Socratease supports:
* **Negative points** for incorrect answers
* **Markdown formatting** for rich text in questions
* **LaTeX** for [mathematical equations](/latex-math-equations)
* **Question tagging** for [organizing and filtering results](/using-tags)
### 7. Question Banks and Bulk Import
* **[Question Banks](/question-banks)**: Create large pools of questions and have candidates receive a random subset, making each test unique.
* **[Bulk Import](/import-questions-from-excel)**: Import questions in bulk from Excel files, saving time when you have many questions to add.
Question Banks and Bulk Import are **Elite** plan features. See [Elite Features](/elite-plan-features) for details.

# Write Results to Google Sheets
Source: https://help.autoproctor.co/write-results-to-google-sheets
Set up automatic export of AutoProctor test results to Google Sheets so data flows in real time without manual downloads.
Instead of manually downloading Excel files after each test, you can configure AutoProctor to automatically write test results to a Google Sheet. Results appear in the sheet as candidates complete their tests, keeping your data current without any extra effort.
This is a **Premium Feature** and requires a Premium or Elite subscription. See [Payments and Credits](/payments-and-credits) for plan details.
## Setup Instructions
Visit the **Test Settings** for a new or existing test on your [AutoProctor dashboard](https://www.autoproctor.co/test-admin/home/).
Scroll down to the **Advanced Settings** section and locate the **Google Sheets ID** field.
Create an empty Google Sheet in your Google Drive. You will use this sheet to receive AutoProctor results.
Share the Google Sheet with `hello@autoproctor.co` and grant **Editor** permissions. This allows AutoProctor to write data to the sheet.
If you do not share the sheet with `hello@autoproctor.co` as an Editor, AutoProctor cannot write results to it. Make sure you grant Editor access, not just Viewer.
Copy the URL of your Google Sheet and paste it into the **Google Sheets ID** field in AutoProctor's test settings.
Click **Create** or **Update** to save your test configuration.
Complete a test attempt. A new sheet tab labeled **AutoProctor** automatically appears in your Google Sheet with the results data.
Subsequent test attempts automatically populate the same Google Sheet without any additional setup.
## Socratease Quiz Integration
For Socratease Quizzes, the system writes both proctoring scores and quiz scores to the sheet. However, individual questions and answers are not included -- only aggregate scoring data appears.
If you need detailed question-level data for Socratease Quizzes, use the [individual submissions](/access-candidate-responses) view on the [AutoProctor dashboard](https://www.autoproctor.co/test-admin/home/) instead.
